President Obama hails return to PAYGO (Politico doing satire pieces now too?)

President Barack Obama is hailing pay-as-you-go budget legislation he signed Friday night as one in a series of crucial steps needed to snap Washington out of a destructive pattern of overspending.

“Now, Congress will have to pay for what it spends, just like everybody else,” Obama said in his radio and Internet address released Saturday morning. “After a decade of profligacy, the American people are tired of politicians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to fiscal responsibility. It’s easy to get up in front of the cameras and rant against exploding deficits. What’s hard is actually getting deficits under control. But that’s what we must do.”

Similar budgeting rules were in place by law from 1990 through 2002, when they expired. Obama argued that the absence of the so-called PAYGO requirement made it too easy for President George W. Bush and lawmakers to run up spiraling deficits in recent years.

“It was the abandonment of this rule that allowed the previous administration and previous congresses to pass massive tax cuts for the wealthy and create an expensive new drug program without paying for any of it,” Obama said. “In a perfect world, Congress would not have needed a law to act responsibly, to remember that every dollar spent would come from taxpayers today – or our children tomorrow. But this isn’t a perfect world. This is Washington.”

...

While the PAYGO legislation requires offsets for new spending or tax cuts, spending in the stimulus measure was not subjected to that requirement. Obama and other administration officials said offsetting that spending with other spending cuts or tax hikes would be unwise because it would undercut the ability of the stimulus money to jump-start the economy.

Obama did not mention in his address that the PAYGO legislation he signed into law Friday was attached to another politically unpopular but arguably essential provision: language lifting the federal debt limit by $1.9 trillion to $14.3 trillion.

"Now, Congress will have to pay for what it spends, just like everybody else,”

How stupid deos he think we are?

Bottom line is that govern. spending needs to be cut, in real terms, by at least 2% per annum for the next ten years.

Any thing else is bullsh!t.

This is a typo. Obama supports pay-to-play not pay as you go.

Now he tries wearing the fiscal responsibility hat 40 some years into his life, 4-6 years as a Senator, and one year into his Presidency?

What a fake.

This is simply incredible. Never before in history of the Republic that we had a public figure let alone a President who has this incredible brazenness in lying and saying exactly the opposite of what he is doing with no shame what so ever. Even if the most corupt third world countries politicians do not try to pull such stunts.

This surreal Obama speech about fiscal responsibility and spending cuts is like a whore who slept with 40 men in a span of two hours then went to the Church and gave a sermon on chastity.

The socialists continue to play their zero sum game. They assume the world is static. The only things that will get "cut" are defense programs. Entitlement and payoffs to his voter base will get all the money they want. Taxes will go up to "pay for" the spending. Revenues will drop as the rates are already too damn high. The lefties must punish the productive and lionize the losers who vote for them.

In the years B.R. (Before Rush) he might have gotten away with it.
