The Era of the Star died when Jane Fonda went to Vietnam to protest the country that gave her life. It would have ended sooner if our corrupt Congress hadn’t passed the Copyright Term Extension Act in 1998 (aka the Mickey Mouse Protection Act).

Art De Vany did a thesis (IIRC) that showed Hollywood studio bosses simply had no way or method of knowing which films would be hits. It was a nearly random process in which luck made a media mogul look brilliant or inept.

I read his book and found it very interesting. Explains why investors from dentists to Wall Street pump money into Hollywood and 99% of the time always end up regretting it; except for the 1% when you hit the jackpot. Investing in Hollywood is like going to Las Vegas.
Yep. They’re Bible & Barnum Investors: “Pride cometh before the fall” & “There’s a sucker born every minute”
I was shocked to learn how many movies are made every year 2-3000. Crazy.
De Vany is an interesting guy.
