Ken Starr Named President of Baylor University By Jean Cowden Moore Posted February 15

Ken Starr, dean of the Pepperdine School of Law, has been named president of Baylor University, a private Baptist school in Waco, Texas.

Starr, who came to national attention when he investigated former President Bill Clinton’s real estate dealings and personal affairs, will start his new job June 1.

Baylor has an enrollment of 14,600 and, like Pepperdine, is known as a Christian university. Baylor has been looking for a new president since former president John Lilley was forced out in 2008.

Starr has been dean of Pepperdine’s law school since 2004. He had been offered the Pepperdine job once before, in 1997, but declined because he was still involved in the Whitewater investigation into President and first lady Hillary Clinton’s real estate dealings.

That investigation resulted in the Starr Report, which also detailed aspects of Clinton’s personal life, including the Monica Lewinsky affair. The report is considered key in Clinton’s impeachment by the House of Representatives in 1998. Clinton was later acquitted in the Senate trial.

The law school will start a national search for a successor soon, Andrew K. Benton, president of Pepperdine, said in a statement.

Starr also has been a partner in a private law practice, served as solicitor general and was a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at George Washington University, master’s at Brown University and his law degree from Duke University School of Law.

Wow, surprised by that. Starr had a sweet deal at Pepperdine, it's like a country club.

Certainly is popular for a guy who fumbled away the biggest responsibility of his life.

I have this lovely fantasy of conservatives running Hussein out of office and Starr being named special prosecutor to investigate every aspect of the Obama myth and fraud machine.

Can you imagine the howling from the left?

Ken Starr? I could imagine the cheering on the left in that instance. With all of the illegalities going on under the Clinton White House all this boob could give us was Bill lying about a chubby camp-follower? I also would like to thank Mr. Starr for Sandra Day O’Connor, what a winner there Ken.

That sound you heard over the Mardi Gras weekend revels in New Orleans was Jimmy Carville’s head going “BOOM!”

We are “Sodom on the Brazos”? Who knew?!? I have to get out more. There’s more going on near the river than I realized.

Starr, ....a guy who fumbled....

A great constitutional lawyer, but a very flawed prosecutor.

If Baylor merged with Texas A&M would the new school be known as the Baggies?

Why was Lilley forced out?

The official story is the Board of Regents lost confidence in him. He denied tenure to some professors and set off a firestorm. Baylor's various factions are constantly at war or in a power struggle with each other. It may be a Christian university but the amount of back stabbing that goes on is unbelievable. There is always some petty squabbling in the local news. The latest has been open war between the University and the alumni association.

I was wondering if he was the President who shocked everyone by dancing up a storm at the first Baylor on-campus dance after the university broke the terms of the money trust after more than a hundred years of banned dancing on campus. :)

My daughter graduated from Baylor in 1982, so I’m well aware of all the arguing that goes on between the University and the Baptist organizations. Lotsa, lotsa politicking.

Oh yes, the great dancing scandal! I think that was Sloan. Personally, I’d be thrilled if they’d devote all the energy used squabbling to improving the football program. All joking aside, it’s a great school.

Do you know why Baptists have sex lying down? So that no one can accuse them of dancing.
