Possibility of a Republican Senate Grows

Evan Bayh's surprise announcement that he would not seek a third term has sent shockwaves through the pundit class on an otherwise quiet President’s Day. It also upset a year’s worth of comfortable predictions that Republicans would never take back the Senate in 2010. This, combined with other recent political developments, places a 50-50 Senate within reach for the Republican caucus.

DeMint is exploring possibility of supporting Stutzman, 4th generation family farmer, state senator, in favor of budget reform, anti-tax, pro 2nd amendment and 100% prolife. Interesting development and appears to be better candidate that Coats.

I wouldn’t want to conclude that the persons I voted for played me for a fool. Since when do ordinary Americans, who are noted for their openness, forthright manner and ideals, think it’s no big thing to be had?

Has this administration, Pelosi, Reid, the lot, no shame? No honor? Do they think they can possibly retire or leave to be at leisure and be welcomed back home? Where is their honor?

For months, I and others were laughed at and made sport of on this forum for putting it out there that Scott Brown could win the senate seat in Massachusetts. "Impossible" you all said. Not in the state of Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank.

Well it happened. And if it happened here, it can happen anywhere. The Republicans can do a clean sweep this November in every single senate race.

They can. If they pull it off, they can demand parity on all Senate committees. If they can get to a tie. the Obama agenda is dead. With Biden's help, the Democrats can still pass most bills but they won't be able to get any thing done next year. 50-50 sounds good right now.

The Pubbies are the only ones stupid enough to share committee chairs with a 50-50 split in the Senate. If it even gets close to 50-50, the rest of them will be looking over their shoulders until 2012. That alone will neuter most of the ones racing re-election in 2012: Especially if the economy continues to flail around and unemployment is still at 10% or worse. Looks like Chuckie Schumer is going to be a lonely man come 2010.

If the Laut croaked, Gov. Christie would replace him with a Republican. Then the GOP only needs to hold its own and net 9+ Democratic seats for a majority. That is if everything breaks the right way in November but its too soon to count those chickens yet.

I do think the GOP will win back the House but the Senate I think would have to be the equivalent of an inside straight to win back the majority. But the Democrats will no longer have a super-majority in the upper house.

“The Republicans can do a clean sweep this November in every single senate race.”

50/50 is not safe enough. There are still among the Republicans several RINO’s who will role under pressure from the press.

We have been here before and the RINO’s collapsed under pressure. That then sets up a bad wave of yellow bellies.

Still not safe by any stretch of our hopes.

I agree, we need at least 55 to be REALLY safe. Too many RINOS can’t be trusted.

But a Republican Senate just might be what the doctor ordered to frack up another “Republican Revolution”. Might just be the best thing that could ever happen for 0bama and the ‘Rat party.

Correct! The worst possible scenario is to have Vichy Republicans holding the balance of power. That would simultaneously advance the "big government agenda" and neuter the "tea party movement."

you can’t pass ANYTHING in the senate without 60 votes, their liberal agenda is already dead, the November landslide for the Republicans will just put the tombstone on the grave.
