By your line of reasoning sanctuary cities are acceptable since you assume they are all law abiding citizens other than the fact they are criminals just by entering the country.

Ergo we shouldn't charge anyone who commits murder since laws addressing murder weren't really written to prevent such a crime

I based my statements on your exact words. Now please provide where I indicated either of the above concepts. You can't because they could not be farther from the truth. You have assigned those positions to me without any basis.

Why bother modifying laws that aren't meant to be enforced in the first place as you claim? Just ignore them.

I would think that answer is rather self evident. To establish a set of laws that are coherent one to the next; that have specific intent and enforceable outcomes. Apparently you have never taken a close look at the existing laws. If you apprehend an illegal alien and establish, without violating their civil rights, that they are in fact illegal, what can be done? Deport them. So, they simply reenter the country. You catch them again and what can you do. Deport them. So they simply reenter the country... Get the picture? It costs more to apprehend, investigate and deport them than it does for them to get back in. The laws are not coherent. Among other things, the consequences do not adequately escalate with recidivism. At any given point, the laws might be clear on the actions to be taken at that time. However, those actions are not part of a comprehensive package to incentivise correct behavior and dis-incentivise bad behavior.

There are plenty of things you can do in addition to deportation that will stop the flood of illegals into this country and to rationalize our legal immigration policies. Specifically,

 A merit based immigration system that brings in the skills and talents to keep us competitive in the global economy;

 Reduced immigration levels based on need and more closely approximating 500,000 immigrants a year recommended by the Jordan Commission;

 Elimination of extended chain migration, i.e., family reunification, limiting it to the nuclear family;<./p>

 Enforcement of existing immigration laws to reduce the current illegal alien population and limit future illegal immigration, i.e., attrition thru enforcement. Enforcement would include: (1) ending the job magnet; (2) increasing coordination at the federal level by eliminating barriers to information sharing among agencies; (3) leveraging state and local enforcement resources; (4) fully implementing the US-VISIT Program to track and deport visa overstays; and (5) make mandatory and improve such programs as E-Verify and 287 [g] authority to assist employers and law enforcement in identifying illegal aliens;

 Elimination of birthright citizenship;

 Ensure that anyone who enters this nation illegally is not rewarded by being permitted to stay and work here; i.e., no amnesty;

 Streamline the processing and adjudication of immigration cases; and

 Promote pro-immigrant measures that help newcomers assimilate and embrace the values and principles of our Founders and the Constitution.

Now please provide where I indicated either of the above concepts.

Your post #50: I am also smart enough to know that the laws were not written with any intent to enforce them, so collectively they are not enforceable.

Given your blanket statement that laws aren't written to be enforced, then the same line of reasoning applies to any other laws including my example of murder. Apparently you believe our founding fathers wrote the Constitution just for show.

To establish a set of laws that are coherent one to the next; that have specific intent and enforceable outcomes.

Our existing immigration laws couldn't be anymore coherent or specific as to their intent. The obvious purpose is to keep out illegal aliens! What part of that concept don't you understand?

If you apprehend an illegal alien and establish, without violating their civil rights, that they are in fact illegal, what can be done?

What part of illegal don't you understand? They must be deported per our immigration laws! That is the purpose of the law!

So, they simply reenter the country. You catch them again and what can you do. Deport them. So they simply reenter the country... Get the picture? It costs more to apprehend, investigate and deport them than it does for them to get back in.

Terrorists have entered the country as illegal aliens to destroy us from within our own borders. Case in point are the terrorists who tried to attack Fort Dix in New Jersey. Failing to strictly enforcing the existing immigration laws will cost us far more than money. it is a national security issue. Get the picture?
