SAN DIEGO -- UC San Diego administrators are condemning a weekend ghetto-themed party thrown off-campus by fraternity students to mock Black History Month, but they aren't likely to discipline anyone, it was reported Wednesday.
The so-called Compton Cookout event urged all participants to wear chains, don cheap clothes and speak very loudly, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Female participants were encouraged to be "ghetto chicks."
The invitation read, "For those of you who are unfamiliar with ghetto chicks -- Ghetto chicks usually have gold teeth, start fights and drama, and wear cheap clothes ...," the Union-Tribune reported. Click Here To Read The Full Invitation
Jeff Gattas, the UCSD executive director of communications and public affairs, told the Union-Tribune that because the event wasn't sanctioned by the university or run by a student organization, university officials don't have a reason to penalize party hosts.
Campus chancellor Marye Anne Fox learned about the party Tuesday and reacted by e-mailing a statement to the university's student body and staff, according to the newspaper, which reported less than 2 percent of UCSD's undergraduates are black.

Sounds like the UCSD faculty/staff isn’t very tolerant of diversity in viewpoints.

Well, its not nice to make fun of those less fortunate than us. And to aim it squarely at Black History Month, seems mean spirited. But thats what you get with a bunch of 17-22 year old joiks.

Went to a Halloween party in Newport Beach once.
Two guys came dressed as pimps and their girlfriends came as Hookers. They had monopoly money waving it around. Pretty funny.
A more thoughtful black community might wonder why this stereotype is out there? Here's a thought. A few years ago I got some older teenagers from the local hood down in my neighborhood trick and treating. Just in case I missed the costumes (which I didn't), he explained he was the "pimp" and she was the "ho." True story.

I wondered if anyone actually used any terms to specifically identify black people. Using the Jerry Springer show as a guide, ghetto people come in all colors.

Maybe they meant the original ghetto people who were jewish and lived in Germany in the 1930’s.
Bullcrap...they don't want the liability of penalizing free speech or for infringing on civil rights...they are stuck in the middle, so they did what all University Leaders do when faced with a legal dilemma...punt.
If it genuinely IS a fraternity event, then it IS a student organization (sounds like the fraternity involved is in full damage-control mode too)...
