Virginia finally is poised to repeal its unusual law that prohibits law-abiding citizens from buying more than one gun per month. It's about time, because the red tape has not had the desired effect in lowering crime. There is no academic research by criminologists or economists that shows that one-gun-a-month regulations reduce crime in either the states that pass them or their neighbors. The laws have merely inconvenienced honest Americans who want to buy guns.
Besides Virginia, only Maryland, California and New Jersey still have these laws. South Carolina was the first state to adopt the restrictions in 1976 but repealed the limit in 2004. New Jersey has had the law on the books for less than two months now.
Contrary to the nanny-state notion that gun control is good, gun limitations are actually harmful. . . .

I bought 2 guns at one time earlier last year.....and at last check neither of them were used in the commission of a crime.
It’s stupid.
Say you just bought a cheap Marlin 22 and a week later the deal of a lifetime comes along, a mint .455 Webley revolver for $100.
You’re supposed to pass up a deal because the gubmint says so?
BS
I’ve got a beautiful Dan Wesson CBOB awaiting the passage of 30 days in NJ.
We take it as a mandate to buy one gun a month.
New Jersey: Where the Second Amendment went to die.
You know, I ought to be buying a couple of Aimpoint pistols and carbines a month. Good guns to sell to friends if the SHTF.
DUH! I meant Hi Point.
Could be worse - could be California! At least we don’t have ‘approved gun lists’
If the SHTF, ANY gun will be a good gun to have/sell.
Even in CA, I am not sure you need a permit to simply hold a gun in a gun store.
That’s probably a measure taken by the state’s remaining 5 gun stores to avoid timewasters, rather than law.
LOL! I think it is the law.
And it simply amazes me that Cabela’s is opening a store in NJ, while a large swath of the south does not have a single Cabela’s store.
Yea, but as I don’t generally sell guns, I am sure as heck not going to loan or sell a friend a Glock or an M1 Garand or an AR-15. I WILL charge them as much as I can get, though. Lack of planning on their part will not constitute an emergency on my part.
I’ll have to check Nappen’s book on that.
Cabela’s seems to have realized that Xanadu is never going to open, and that you can’t sell guns in NJ on Sundays - they’re backing out as carefully as they can, it seems.
btw - thankfully I live right near the Pa border, so it’s a bit easier to find a well stocked store and FFL transfer back in.
Virginia is going to repeal its GUN RATIONING law? GREAT!!!
Have you looked at the Hi Point 9mm carbine? Good accuracy and costs about $240.
I am not a fan of BPS.
ummm, maybe you should get out and about a little more PowderMonkey? I'm not taking a side concerning which is better, Cabela’s or Bass Pro, they're pretty close it seems to me. And, at least here in the Dallas metroplex they each offer about the same amenities you listed. Actually, if looking to buy a gun(s) and/or shooting supplies I personally prefer Cabela’s.
Population density. Lots of fishing and camping gear will be sold there.
