Sean Penn Charged In Clash With LA Photographer
By REUTERS February 19, 2010
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar-winner Sean Penn, as infamous for problems with paparazzi as he is famous for acting, has been charged with two crimes after a run-in with a photographer last year and could face jail time if convicted, Los Angeles prosecutors said on Friday.
Penn, 49, was charged with misdemeanor battery and vandalism after allegedly kicking a photographer in the leg and breaking his camera last October at an upscale shopping center in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, the city attorney's office said.
The incident was caught on video and shown on celebrity news website TMZ.com.
Penn, who won Oscars for his roles in "Mystic River" and the 2008 movie "Milk," faces a maximum of 18 months behind bars if convicted, city attorney's office spokesman Frank Matelijan said. He is due to make a first court appearance on March 22.

Will Sean make bail? ROFLMAO! I kill myself!
This is neat! Sean Penn VS the Paparazzi. If someone gets hurt, who cares!
He’s been using papparazzi as punching bags for over 20 years. This is news?!
LOL! True, dat! :)
Its the one redeeming quality Sean Penn possesses. Even a rabid lib has value sometimes, go figure.
He will pay; but bet ‘no time’. . .
Sean Penn was okay in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but he has gotten progressively worse since then. I can’t imagine a photographer wanting to follow him around. Filming garbage on the street would be more interesting.
If I had those paparazzi scum in my face day and night, I’d be in jail on assault charges, for sure!
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
to be honest, you can’t blame him for that. WHo here would be damn annoyed if paparazzi followed them around everywhere just because you have a private job and just so happen to be famous at the same time. What right do they have to follow you around, just because you’re a movie actor? Its a job like any other. I can understand journalist following politicians around because politicians work for the public, but not movie actors and celebrities. Paparazzi should be charged for stalking
