Gay Republicans Rankle Conservatives At CPAC

Several prominent social conservatives have bailed out of this year's CPAC convention because of the presence of a group of gay Republicans.

The three-day convention got started Thursday at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC and will feature such anti-gay figures as former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, media personality Ann Coulter, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. Conservative media personality Glenn Beck is the event's keynote speaker.

Liberty University Law School, the Christian-based university founded by the late Jerry Falwell, backed out of the event after it was announced that the recently formed gay Republican group GOProud was a co-sponsor.

The group's leader, Jimmy LaSalvia, will participate in a panel discussion Saturday morning on using technology to mobilize conservatives.

A quick read of topics covered at the conference would lead one to believe the gay Republicans have walked into a den of lions. Anti-gay groups such as the Christian-based Focus on the Family Action, Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum and the Catholic Advocate will speak on a range of social issues, including one panel titled Saving Freedom from the Enemies of our Values.

On the exhibition floor, the gay Republicans have set up shop just two booths down from the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), the nation's most vociferous opponent of gay marriage.

“It's the ultimate Washington power grab to say let's have a federal constitutional amendment that will federalize the question of marriage,” Christopher Barron, chairman of GOProud, told CNN.

NOM offered a terse message via POLITICO's Ben Smith to the gay Republicans. “We have a message for GOProud on marriage: If you try to elect pro-gay marriage Republicans, we will Dede Scozzafava them. The majority of Americans, and the vast majority of Republicans, support marriage as the union of husband and wife, and NOM is here to make sure these voters and their voices are heard loud and clear,” the group said referring to a Republican lawmaker who supports gay marriage and was squeezed out by social conservatives last November from pursuing a New York Congressional seat.

“Who's the pansy at #CPAC10 ? - NOM can't even walk a few feet to deliver 'message',” GOProud sparred back on Twitter.

Among the criticisms lobbed at gay Republicans from gay Democrats, however, is their apparent contradiction on gay marriage. The group says it supports the right of gay and lesbians to marry. But gay Republican groups have previously endorsed anti-gay marriage candidates, including Senators John McCain of Arizona and Scott Brown of Massachusetts.

CPAC ends Saturday.

I don’t think any of them are anti gay. There’s a difference between being anti gay and wanting the gays to keep their lifestyle to themselves like everybody else. I think gay behavior is disgusting and immoral but that doesn’t mean I’m anti gay.

I’LL GET THIS RIGHT - THIRD TIME IS A CHARM!

Everything you said is true, Cicero and yet, this gay magazine calls Romney “anti-gay.” LOL.

Stupid Romney, all that gay appeasing got him nothing from them, and nothing from us. He is a man WITHOUT core values and a man WITHOUT their support or ours.

Note that the Ron Paul goofballs huddled up with the Homo crowd to boo a good young conservative off the podium at CPAC.

It’s not about being anti gay, I could care less, but there advocating policies that are not conservative. If they were conservative, I’d welcome them any day over the Ron Paul disgraces. jmo

There is not a gay bone in my body, I just don’t run away at the thought of being on the same stage as a gay guy, like Liberty University does.

It’s got nothing to do with the fact they’re homos.

It’s that they push society-destroying policies like openly homo people in the military and redefinition of marriage.

If they want to be homo but for a strong America without pushing the society-destroying policies, I have no further problem with them.

Read agenda item 4. For weeks I have felt like a fool whistling in the wind. Nobody seemed to hear me. Now we have a gay conservative group advocating what I am warning people about.

Repeal of DADT is the domino that could cause all the other gay agenda domino’s to fall in place. In order to repeal DADT, the feds will have to get rid of the Defense of Marriage Act. Why? Because openly gay members would not be entitled to allowances and privileges afforded to heterosexuals. That conflicts with DOD diversity policies.

Once the DOD is forced (lawsuit) to follow regulations and recognize gay marriage, all Fed agencies will have to follow. It is not just about your 18 yr old son or daughter being forced to live with a person who performs unnatural sex acts in their barracks room.

Gay agenda will enter the DODEA (fed public schools), because you could have a couple of gays with an adopted child, living next door in base housing. One domino takes down another and so on.

Make the congress critters afraid to address DADT this year. Make sure Repub candidates support DADT. Remember gays can serve in the military, like heterosexuals they just need to keep their private life, private.

- - - - - -

OMG! I think you’re right!

Yes, we have to try everything we can to stall the vote until we have the 112th congress seated.

The review is “supposed to” take one year, but Obama will surely push his generals for an earlier report of their findings.

Mullen is already in the tank. Dear Lord.

Except of course Liberty University shares the stage with opponents all the time. They apparently only run away when the opponents are homosexuals.

Yes, I’ve watched that video three times and the booing started while he walked to the podium. Makes sense that they Ron Paul brats teamed-up with the homosexual agitators.

Precisely. That’s all repeal of DADT is- a policy method to legitimize homosexual marriage at the federal level without having to legislate it.

OK, but it’s a big issue in our society today how do we deal with this issue.

They’ve made this statement, and you can admit it’s made an impact, a few people will be asking themselves why they made that choice.

For most of us it’s not because they’re homo, it’s because they want to push it on the rest of us & redefine the world around that. They’re teaching homo sex to kindergarteners in California. They’ve got “transgender” 8-year-old boys in New York. It’s gone too far. There are plenty of homos who are homo in their private life but they realize that pushing it on society is only done by people who want to destroy that society. It was a core goal of the KGB during the cold war, for example.

Why is it anti-gay to opine that divorce courts are overburdened as is?

I think we all might be surprised by the number of fiscal conservative gays who actually vote Republican, because they do keep quiet and go about their personal business like the rest of us.

The gay activists put their unconscionable social agenda ahead of everything else and they’re the vociferous agitators who want to transform America, just like Obama.

I dont know. sounds kind of opportunistic to me, taking advantage of a mic and all... but what do I know? I married a female and I’m a guy. nothing normal about that , eh?
