LOS ANGELES, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Facing a $212 million deficit and threats of a credit downgrade, the Los Angeles City Council ordered city agencies to eliminate 3,000 jobs, officials said.

Agency heads have been told to eliminate the jobs by July 1 "by any means necessary, including layoffs," the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

The downsizing is in addition to 1,000 job cuts already planned....

4,000 jobs eliminated...

This is getting good! A good start.

Even La Raza boy understand the people are broke, and have no more money to prop up the government's lottery style wages and government retirement pensions.

I can only hope these 4000 government employees are the first wave being eliminated.

I’ll believe it when it happens and it won’t.

Would be nice if other governments would follow suit. In PA, the governor whines about how broke we are, but cut jobs? No way. He’s in bed with the unions.

As their tax revenues shrink, and the anger level of those left, pegs the meter, they'll eventually be forced to, while the government employees and their unions eat themselves alive.

Except for emergency services most government jobs can be eliminated. Just look at Wash D.C. non essential jobs during the snow storms where they were told not to come to work.

No, sorry....Even emergency services need to be dramatically slashed and reduced.

I wonder what it will COST taxpayers to “lay off” or “eliminate” union bureaucrats?? Assuming they can be fired at ALL, there will undoubtedly be a payout of some kind. And health benefits and pensions will probably continue—at taxpayer expense—until the bureaucrat dies, at which point a spouse might continue to collect. So firing or laying off may SOUND good, but it would be a good idea to “check the fine print!”

All they are going to do is "not fill" vacant positions, shuffle employees and tell us they eliminated 3000 jobs, when in fact, they will have laid off less than 1000. Then requisition for a new position after the heat dies down.

Not this time...It’s no longer business as usual...The corrupt government is broke, and their revenues are in the drain.

Nah. He's just using the occasion to get rid of aging gringos, who will be replaced with youthful Mestizos in just a bit.

Screw them too....

In fact, if this keeps up, I predict the pathetic government insiders running that city will have to cut city government in half, just to save their own opulent lottery style wages and government retirements...

It will be fun watching them eat each other alive, and the in-fighting has already started in fact.

On average, in most companies and organizations, 20% of the people do 80% of the work. Inside of the Government it must be worse. Only when the chokehold from SEIU etc., is broken will real ‘change’ begin.

We could probably get by better on half the government workers at all levels. Would love to see it.

I guess you missed the on-going Hispanic/Latinos city employees and their scream-fest, and their corrupt government unions coming unglued at the prospect of losing their bloated government jobs.

It don't get any better then watching this.

Unless they can get these people to work for free, with no government lottery style retirement pensions or benefits, I think we'll eventually see it.
