the whole reason there is such a divide is that the bills introduced serve one group and punish another. The bills themselves are that divisive. If only one bill got passed every 2 years because of gridlock, is that a BAD thing?

Bills that serve ALL of the people and satisfied BOTH parties would pass without issue. Isn't that what this is all about... protecting the minority so that they are not dictated to by the majority?

I often hear people claim "majority rules". The fact is, our system is designed to protect the suppressed group and ensure their rights are preserved .. the majority would never dissolve their own, it is the minority that needs such leeway and protection.

This madness must stop. I think the vote should be raised back to 67. This will ensure even more that groups are not trampled on. Write responsible legislation and 67 isn't a problem.

That notion is lost in the simple debate. The bills that draw strenuous objection tend to be extreme. The Democrats often put up bills that they know suck ("but it can be amended," is used to justify the starting point), and rather than adjust the starting point, they just blame the GOP for blocking. In fact, the DEMs know exactly how to reduce the amount of objection, and they won't go for tempering their demands because they prefer the smoke screen.
