Newly-seated Republican Sen. Scott Brown (Mass.) on Monday joined Democrats in voting to end debate on their $15 billion jobs bill.

Brown crossed the aisle after Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) nixed an $85 billion, bipartisan plan in favor of a more narrowly-focused bill.

Since Grassley, Snowe and Collins were all voting for it, it didn’t matter. Let’s see how he does when it DOES mean something.

Not a surprise.

No it isn't a surprise - to some of us anyway.

What is somewhat surprising is the number of FReepers who were ready to have this guy run for President of the United States the day after he won Mass.

That blooming display of stupidity was something to behold. Thankfully, it seems to have passed.

This vote by Brown actually solidifies his opposition to BOcare - same with Snowe and Collins as well. Proves their reasonability on a whole range of issues.

It gets the MSM off the meme that DC is broken.

Therefore makes opposition to BOcare easier for moderates.

And this so-called jobs bill still has to go to conference.

The key item that Brown promised was to filibuster on BOcare and he will remain solid on that issue.

BO’s roll-out today was a disaster. Nothing has changed.

"Why in hell do people on FR throw a fit every time an Independent turns out not to be a hardcore conservative in everything they say and do?"

Excellent question. The guy is an immeasurable improvement over Ted Kennedy. People act like Brown has somehow kept Pat Buchanan from his rightful place in the Senate. It's ridiculous.

Brown is up for reelection in less than 24 months. If he can't point to some "bi-partisan" votes in the Senate, he's toast. Then, we'll be stuck with a conventional orthodox liberal from Massachusetts. Of course, I'm sure many here will be glad to be rid of the "RINO".

Exactly. And if I understand correctly they already had more Republicans crossing to vote for it than the Democrats needed. In which case, this is an especially harmless vote that can build a little of the ‘independent’ cred everyone knows he needs if he’s going to retain the seat in a couple of years. Going all ideologue on us and handing his seat to your usual closet-commie MA Democrat won’t help us or the country at all.

This is Mass we are talking about. He will vote with republicans 50 percent of the time. Better than nothing. Martha would have voted with the libs 100 percent of the time. In this case it truly was the less of two evils.
