Far as those in congress today and those waiting in the wings, that is a very broad statement to make

Not really. When you get to that level of the beauty contest anyone with real talent has been weeded out or pounded into submission on the anvil of party-speak.

Then why bother with politics? Why vote? Why waste time expressing views on political forums? If no one is any good, if there is no chance electing anyone who is any good, what is the point of being engaged?

Just because we're trapped in a 2 party system isn't reason to give up hope that someday the political system will change or be changed.

Although scholars criticize Washington’s personal ethics, sexual behavior, vanity, and ownership of slaves,

We all know about slaves, no news fash there. I've not heard about criticism regarding personal ethics, sexual behavior and vanity (unless disliking false teeth is vain).

But then again I am a Virginian. When I took Virgnia History way back when in the 4th grade, Washington had no faults. :-)

A multiparty system is worse. That is why the left is always lobbying to create that or a parliamentary system. America resisted statism for longer than Europe did because of the two party system. Its always hard to undo statism but its much harder under a multi-party system. The slate cannot be wiped clean as we can do in America, if people have the will, every two years. Too many alliances and shifting factions.

I don't think so. The current do-nothing, grid-locked 2 party system which represnt an ever smaller portion of the population accomplishes worse than nothing.
In a multi-party system, all or most political perspectives are represented. If a party fails to capture the majority, than a coalition is formed between those with somewhat similar objectives.
This country will not survive another 50 years if the system stays the way it is.
