Obama's Healthcare Plan Attacks the Symptoms, Not the Problems

Yesterday Barack Obama introduced his own version of a healthcare reform plan. While it is good that he finally decided to become more personally involved in the debate rather than leaving it up to his Democrat Party comrades, Obama’s plan really is very much a new plan that is much like the old plan.

As with the congressional plans, there is really nothing in Obama’s plan which actually deals with the issue of increased healthcare costs. Instead, the major new component of his plan is to limit the increases in healthcare insurance revenues. Clearly that measure was added as a response to score political points in light of the 39% average increase in healthcare premiums announced by Anthem Insurance in the state of California.

BO’s/BS’s plan is meant to attack our Democratic Republic and replace it with socialism.

You are correct. They are going for total government control. Any Republicans who go to the Summit are Collaborating with the enemy. We must get the White House back in American hands. Obama is the American Chavez and he will do as much damage as he can.

If you listen to Republicans, they want to do it slower, littler, here and there. This and that.

At least the Democrats were upfront in the total final takeover.

You are on it. I am no longer being fooled by the good cop bad cop trick. Republicans even have a plan that is just as unconstitutional as the Democrat plan. Health care is not a Federal issue. It should be handled by the States. Republicans are just as Progressive as Democrats. Unless they change their ways I am done with them. How can people be so gullible on FR?

If we really want health care reform, do two things:

1) Allow insurers to offer plans across state lines on a regional basis. Imagine being able to choose between 15-20 plans per state--the price competition would drive costs down very quickly.

2) Enable tort reform to emphasize immediate financial relief (medical costs and lost wages) in malpractice cases, plus loser pays all court costs. That right there will finally force plaintiff lawyers to work to file real cases with merit, not frivolous cases that end up tying up the court system.

Rename, repackage, rewrite it a tad smaller, and sell another pig in a poke.

Tennessee has joined several other states in trying to pass a Health Care Freedom Act. NO COLAs for granny, retired Military or retired fed employees. BIG NEW fees for Tricare for Life retired over 65 Military's secondary health ins. (DOD bill already passed, delayed but goes into effect 2011)

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.)

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases
http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/10/military_tricarefees_blocked_100709w

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

Snip

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Snip

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

Bambi doesn't keep his promises...so buyer beware.

"Allow insurers ...."

Allow? What's this 'allow' business? ( Well, I/we know ). You mean, the government will permit, or not, for a time, in a way, then change it's mind, then not, forwards and backwards as political pressure or administrators desire, upon appeal, or ...... ( And some people wonder why systemic assault on costs, waste and investment in innovation isn't accomplished. Departmant of Motor Vehicles only with health care. )
