So, was slavery abolished once the Union won the Civil war and the 13th Amendment was established?

Tsk tsk tsk

The Fort Sumpter rebellion started after South Carolina seceded. Reinforcing that fort in a free state was seen as an act of war. Look at like this way, if Iran tried to reinforce terrorists in Iraq. Same thing. Lincoln baited the south to war. To fulfill his plans.

Lincoln did lock up political prisoners- google Clement L Vallandigham. Lincoln also shut down hundreds of opposition newspapers and censored all telegraph communication

I am sure you are big proponet of the Patriot Act.

Reinforcing that fort in a free state was seen as an act of war.

Why should it be seen as such?

Look at like this way, if Iran tried to reinforce terrorists in Iraq. Same thing.

Look at it this way. If Cuba decided they wanted the U.S. out of Guantanamo Bay and bombarded the base into surrender in order to achieve it would you say they were right?

Lincoln baited the south to war. To fulfill his plans.

So you're saying Davis and his cronies were too stupid to see through Lincoln's plot?

Lincoln did lock up political prisoners- google Clement L Vallandigham.

First it's thousands and now it's one?

Lincoln also shut down hundreds of opposition newspapers and censored all telegraph communication

If it was that many then you should have no problems listed 50 or so of those hundreds he shut down. Have at it.

Sadly I have been debating on my blackberry and incapable now in doing heavy research of newspapers shutdown. Know this however

The souther states believed in state sovereignty- they saw the strong centralized federal government coming in to take control of the citizens. Did they take it to thw fullest extreme? Absolutely- they had balls then.

Put it this way. I went through public school told that Lincoln went to war to free the slaves and that the southern states were wrong. Well the winners write the history books and when the new revolution hits- I am sure people will not be migrating north. I love how ppl here hate Obama and his big government policies but welcome Lincoln and his policies of strong central government.

Take your time. You don't have to come up with the names of all the hundreds of papers you claim. Just a hundred or so will do.

The souther states believed in state sovereignty- they saw the strong centralized federal government coming in to take control of the citizens.

They were the strong centralized federal government. The South had exerted a disproportionate level of influence over the government - from presidents to cabinet members to judges to congressional leadership in the 70+ years leading up to the rebellion. And replaced the U.S. government with one that was stronger and more centralized.

Well the winners write the history books...

And the losers write the myths.

I love how ppl here hate Obama and his big government policies but welcome Lincoln and his policies of strong central government.

And I always find it amusing how people like you can rail against Lincoln and totally ignore the excesses of Jefferson Davis.
