Barack Obama has said that his program is not socialism and “besides” people like the socialism of medicare. He tries to play both sides of that coin.

This video has been floating around for at least a year. I believe Rush and Hannity have used it in the past. I don't know why the concerted push now.

But the fact is that Reagan was directly challenging the implementation of Medicare which he believed, as you rightly characterized, was “opening the door for an incrementally expanding agenda”.
