Professor’s Killing of Brother Will Be Focus of an Inquest

CANTON, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts prosecutor ordered an inquest Thursday into the fatal shooting of Amy Bishop’s brother, saying there are new questions about whether it was the accident that investigators concluded at the time.

The handling of the case has been under scrutiny since Dr. Bishop, a neuroscientist, was accused of killing three faculty colleagues on Feb. 12 in a shooting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

In announcing the inquest, William R. Keating, the Norfolk district attorney, revealed that investigators recently examined a photograph taken of Dr. Bishop’s bedroom shortly after her brother’s death in 1986 and enlarged it. They found a newspaper article that described someone killing a relative with a shotgun and then stealing a getaway car from a car dealership.

Dr. Bishop, then 21, shot and killed her brother, Seth, 18, with her father’s 12-gauge shotgun at their Braintree home. She then went to a car dealership and tried to commandeer a car, the police said. After her arrest, she told the police that the weapon had accidentally discharged.

“We were struck by how parallel the circumstances were,” Mr. Keating said, referring to the newspaper article. “That could go to the state of mind of Amy Bishop at the time.”

At least he was placed in jail, questioned and appeared before a judge.

I’ll take that as progress. Amy Bishop didn’t do any of that. Even Ted Kennedy had to appear before a judge.

More details here:

He declined to specify the case or the newspaper but the Herald has learned that the article referred to the November 1986 shooting of “Dallas” star Patrick Duffy’s parents in Montana. The TV tycoon’s parents were felled by shotgun blasts to the chest in their Boulder, Mont., bar by two teens who fled to a car dealership and stole a pickup truck. They were ultimately caught.

Amy Bishop blasted her 18-year-old brother in the chest and then allegedly fled to a nearby Ford dealership with the shotgun and demanded a getaway car. She was arrested at gunpoint by Braintree police but never charged. Her brother’s shooting was ruled accidental.

Much more coherent article than the one I posted from the AP. If any of the cops saw that article about the Montana shootings in her room and did not put that in the police report...that cop should go to jail for obstruction of justice.

the alabama families should sue the mom’s ass for covering up for
her predator daughter. they may not win, or even have much of a case, but they can cause her some headaches and expensive lawyer bills.

Likely returned, since there was no arrest and thus no need to hold evidence.

gussiefinknottle I would do the same but I would sue Amy Bishop’s Dad also . Amy Bishop parent’s Judith and Samuel Bishop I would sue them both ! They don’t like answering ???’s :)

Keating said at a news conference this afternoon that he had filed a request for the inquest today at Quincy District Court.

He said he was seeking the inquest because, in his own review of the handling of the case, he was not getting cooperation from Bishop’s parents, Judith and Samuel Bishop.

“They have refused upon our efforts to speak to investigators,” Keating said.

Keating also said there were inconsistencies in the police reports, including two different accounts of Seth Bishop’s body position when he was found, with one saying he was face up and another saying he was face down.

This may be off-topic, but I believe inconsistencies have been found in the reports about Vince Fosters’ murder. Wonder if anyone will get around into re-opening that case?

Amy Bishop’s mother doesn’t recall why her daughter was released.
