I’m thinking is they had been armed, so would the other African tribes who captured them and sold them to the white slave traders.
Which ever tribe won the battle would have still sold the losers into slavery.

Secondly, he didn’t say he was forming a black militia.
Thirdly, even if he did say he was forming black militia, why shouldn’t black citizens form militias? White citizens do.
He was talking about forming militias to protect citizens’ constitutional rights. Last time I checked, blacks are citizens under our constitution
