MOSCOW, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A Russian official said plans to purchase a French warship will not be finalized in time for the Russian president's March trip to Paris.
The Defense Ministry source said Moscow is seeking to purchase a Mistral-class ship, worth about $540 million to $675 million, from French naval shipbuilder DCNS, but officials have yet to make a final decision despite the approval of the French government, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

Looks like the Russian Navy (VMF) wants to acquire a French-built Mistral class amphibious assault ship.
Can't they build one of their own or are they still building subs?
Do the Russians know it only sails in reverse?
I can’t find a place for a ship like that in a Russian amphibious assault doctrine. Their idea is a mixed D-Day&Kursk battle style on a ‘new’ read ‘70s technology basis. It means establishing SAM covering, ruining defences and defenders’ morale with massive artillery and cruise missile fire, inserting armor&troops by REAL amphibious ships soon after to take and hold ground there soon after bombing.
This exact ship is unable to do it in any scale against any decent nation with airforce and missile technology.
There are a few options. It is Russians are getting ready to fight nations like Somalia or it is Russians who are comes out with a deal to set a fight in NATO over it.
Also, being inferior to any outdated Russian class as a naval unit, this ship is known to be built using the latest CIVILIAN shipbuilding technology.
So, if the deal is to happen it is most likely both to set a fight in NATO and to get a technology to improve their domestic industry. It is also a signal to press upon their other defence contractors to catch with a West if they want to be on market for military who are showing them for real or not an intent to drop ‘Buy Russian’ policy.
