In this instance, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs defines “Blue Water Navy” Vietnam Vets as distinct to ‘Brown Water Navy” sailors.

“Brown Water Navy” as in River Patrol Boats, Swift Boats, and lately it includes DDG and CAG Fire Support ships.

The DDG/CAG’s took the better part of 7 years to be included under the Act.

Beginning to look like we’re (if a humble old training command REMF like me can get into the club) either going to be statistically analyzed plumb out of existence or just redefined by some wordjockey into Unpersons.

Again.

How you doin’, by the way? Still lookin’ at the flowers instead of the roots, just to pi$$ off the hippies?

Do you happen to know if all DDGs are included or just the ones that made port calls in Vietnam?

My DDG (USS Hoel DDG-13) did a lot of fire support missions in late 1972 but we never tied up in Vietnam nor did we go up any of the rivers.
