A South Carolina congressman said Friday that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson, S.C., had been removed from active duty, and four of them discharged from the Army, in connection with an ongoing probe into alleged threats to poison food at the large South Carolina base.

Republican Rep. Joe Wilson, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, said the soldiers' laptops had been seized and were being analyzed. Congressional officials with knowledge of the case said cell phones and Arabic writings had been confiscated as well.

Wilson also disclosed for the first time that four of the Muslim soldiers had been "administratively separated" from the Army, a military designation that means they were discharged with neither honorable nor dishonorable status.

"If you don't succeed (in the Army), you can be administratively discharged without a court-martial and without a full military review," .

The fifth soldier was removed from active duty and returned to the National Guard's jurisdiction in Virginia,.

Congressional officials said three of the five soldiers had been sent to the National Guard unit based in the District of Columbia.

“5–17. Other designated physical or mental conditions.”
This contains a list of conditions under which separation can be effected. However, it is not possible to ascertain a specific condition for this character.

The thought of bringing low level Muslim interpreters fresh from places like Afghanistan, Pakistan etc. into the heart of our intel program gives me pause too, VeniVidiVeci.

No matter how you slice it - these guys were up to no good. It makes you wonder what kind of vetting scrutiny they were subjected to from the get go. Like you say the particulars of the 09L program look awful casual about security issues.

Something’s not right here.

Excellent digging, verity.

So Islamist terror wannabes threatening an Army base's food supply, stealing cell phones and military id's are to be considered in the same category as airsickness, seasickness, bed wetting, dyslexia, nightmares, claustrophobia and gender confusion?

Give me a break.

I can see being a Muslim falling under the category of "Other disorders manifesting disturbances of perception, thinking, emotional control or behavior sufficiently severe that the Soldier’s ability to effectively perform military duties is significantly impaired"

From your link:

5-17, AR 635-200,Commanders specified in paragraph 1–19 may approve separation under this paragraph on the basis of other physical or mental conditions not amounting to disability (AR 635–40) and excluding conditions appropriate for separation processing under paragraph 5–11 or 5–13 that potentially interfere with assignment to or performance of duty. Such conditions may include, but are not limited to—

(1) Chronic airsickness.

(2) Chronic seasickness.

(3) Enuresis.

(4) Sleepwalking.

(5) Dyslexia.

(6) Severe nightmares.

(7) Claustrophobia.

(8) Transsexualism/gender transformation in accordance with AR 40-501 paragraph 3-35.

(9) Other disorders manifesting disturbances of perception, thinking, emotional control or behavior sufficiently severe that the Soldier’s ability to effectively perform military duties is significantly impaired.

This just stinks.
