Snail mail might soon get even slower. The U.S. Postal Service plans to propose Tuesday an adjusted mail service schedule, which will likely cut Saturday delivery. The agency will also suggest closing some branches and expanding its use of self-service kiosks in grocery stores and other popular retail spots, as part of its effort to work its way out of a mountain of debt. USPS posted a $3.8 billion loss in its 2009 fiscal year, the latest in a multiyear string of whopping losses.

Government programs lose money. Always.
When the USPS eventualluy decides to cut back, it's called "No delivery on Saturday".
When government health care decides to cut back, it's called "Death Panels".

I am almost positive my mail person skips the house and only delivers now every other day.

Big cities used to get twice a day mail delivery before the “Progressives” tried to take over the country. Cuidado!

Fine by me. Outside of Christmas card season, I get maybe one USPS delivery a week that’s of any interest. The rest would make good birdcage liner, if I had a bird.

Less service for more money - business as usual at the P.O.

I mail one or two things a month. This will not affect me. It sounds like a fine idea.

Interesting...some of the postmasters I have spoken with have always given me the impression that Wednesday is more likely to be ‘cut out’ than Saturday.

Why not end this fiasco and simply privatize mail delivery. The Gov’t cannot do ANYTHING right and may just as well own up to It once and for all.

My mom likes to talk about the days BEFORE the "Service Economy", when mail was delivered twice a day, dairy was delivered in the morning, the butcher delivered, and they could take the train 60 miles to the BIG city to shop on Saturday, and have large items (like furniture) delivered to the house on Monday.

USPS mail delivery in Manhattan is deplorable. But if anyone complains, important pieces of mail will mysteriously disappear and become “lost in the mail”, Netflix DVDs will start to arrive broken, etc. So you have to live with it.
