WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline)-Big legal troubles could be in store for the college football playoff system that the Utah attorney general says disadvantages his and other states.

Sorry, I know it pisses a lot of folks off, but I support legal action against the BCS.
You are telling me that there aren’t REAL crimes out there that would justify this guys pay check???
Hurrah! Let’s destroy the entire bowl season because a couple teams no longer like the rules they agreed to.
It’s worth noting that the state’s attorney general is taking this action, not the University of Utah itself. I wonder what that means in terms of legal standing, contractual matters between the school and the NCAA, etc.
I don’t think the non-BCS conferences agreed to anything other than getting shafted by those desiring to maintain the status quo versus crowning a true champion.

Dude, it’s Utah. This IS the biggest crime in the state. LOL
...and these guys want us to employ legal teams to go after a football-game arrangement...
...and they're REPUBLICANS?!?
Since when is it wrong to seek to change rules that you don’t like?
HAHAHAHA!!!
You are correct, sir!
HIIIIOOOOOO!
Once conference champions are crowned (first weekend after Thanksgiving), the top 16 teams are selected. Over the next 2 weekends, the top 4 teams are determined (#1 vs. #16, #2 vs. #15, ... #8 vs. #9). All losers, plus the other "bowl-eligible" teams are then relegated to lesser bowl games for the rest of the month.
Starting New Year's weekend, the top 4 square off for 3 final games in the "big" bowl games.
That's how it should be done - it would include all conferences regardless of 'quality' and nobody can complain for being left out. Harrumph.
Attorney Generals enforce law. Law that applies, involuntarily, over all of the occupants of a state or nation.
The BCS is a voluntary association with rules.
Involuntary law ≠ voluntary rules.
Case closed.
Maybe if the lawyer can somehow crowbar Obama’s citizenship issue into this it could get some legs.
The BCS is one of the most corrupt institutions in the world and there is a pile of money at stake, it's amazing that they been able to get away with the con for so long.
The NCAA is prohibited from violating laws of the US and of the various states. If the AG of a particular state believes that implementation of NCAA (in this case BCS selection) rules are in violation of a state law then the AG is obligated to bring suit against them. Voluntary collusion with the BCS is not a likely mitigating factor.
And then there are the antitrust implications, which the Dept. of Justice might consider pursuing.
The NCAA is clearly operating as a monopoly and in my opinion they are a very abusive monopoly. To leave the NCAA is tantamount to closing the athletic department at any major university. The NCAA knows this and often wields this power against universities.
... and you just stepped all over the rights of the free market bowl games to choose who they will pay to play.
I agree except instead of saying “top 16 teams” which is open to interpretation it should say the 11 divison one conference champions and 5 at large candidates.
While there will always be a debate about who the top 5 are and how they are decided at least it would still allow for 1 of the independents (Notre Dame, Army, Navy) and someone who just missed out by a squeaker to make the playoffs. At least everyone would get a chance at the ring then - and THAT is what America is about.
And the BCS and major conferences who in their trust scheme prevent other conferences from participating equally in the quest for the championship step all over those conferences and colleges by preventing access to the money associated with those games thereby preventing those states’ taxpayers from benefiting as the schools in the “in” conferences/schools do.
