How does this compare to a randomly-selected 7-day period since records have been kept?

Oh, noes. We’re all gonna die! It’s the end of the world! I think I’ll write a book called “We Are the Earthquake Generation.” I’ll sell a million copies and die rich.

In the past seven days there have been more than 258 recorded earthquakes of a magnitude higher than 4.5 on the Richter's scale.

How many more? This is a specific time period and there is an actual list of earthquakes that have a magnitude of 4.5 or higher. Was it 259? Was it 260? Why can't the article give us the exact number? I suspect a coverup!

Not included in the article is the normal expected number of 4.5 magnitude or higher earthquakes in a typical 7 day period. Or even the normal number of 4.5 magnitude or higher earthquakes in any 7 day period that contains a magnitude 8.8 earthquake.

From the article:

In 1960, Chile suffered the biggest earthquake ever recorded in human history, one with a magnitude of 9.5 Richter. This terrible event caused thousands of deaths, and the country's terrain was changed forever.

I am reasonably sure that any earthquake changes the terrain forever, as does wind and rain.

There was a fellow on FNC today ( the Asian American scientist with longish grey hair who’s often seen on the History Channel) who explained that the quake in Chile actually knocked the planet off it’s axis and as a result our day is now shorter than 24 hours.
