Pelosi picks fellow Californian to take gavel after Rangel bows out (Rep. Pete Stark)

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has picked liberal firebrand Rep. Pete Stark to replace ousted Chairman Charles Rangel on the tax-writing committee, according to a House leadership aide.

The decision was made during a Wednesday morning leadership meeting following Rangel's announcement that he would temporarily step aside as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, the aide said.

Rangel announced earlier Wednesday morning that he is taking a leave of absence pending the results of an ethics investigations.

In Stark, Pelosi is picking a fellow Californian to head one of the House's most powerful committees. Stark becomes the sixth House Democratic chairman from the Golden State.

Stark is next in line for the post in seniority, but his maverick personality had led some to question whether he would get the gavel even on a temporary basis. Stark has made many controversial comments over the years, and when Republicans controlled the House, Stark challenged then Rep. Scott McInnis (R-Colo.) to a fight during a Ways and Means Committee hearing.

Both. Liberalism is a mental illness. Most of them are batsh*t crazy, some more than others. On a scale of 1-10, they are both a solid 10.

Hard to believe that they are in charge of anything. Even a hot dog stand.

The article says he was “ousted”? He hasn’t been ousted.

He just agreed to lay low until the coast is clear.

After all, that’s what criminals do when the heat is on.

I knew they had someone worse than Rangel in mind if Pelosi encouraged his exit. Why don’t the people of Californua have the responsibility of naming Rangel’s replacement rather than the Commie Speaker of the House?

I wouldn't bet that Fortney Pete Stark will willingly give up the gavel when Oily Charley returns.

Probably worth laying in a cup of popcorn.

Pelosi is more about spitting in Republican’s faces than doing anything logical or sensible. She and Hussein make a good pair, both petty spiteful little queens. Neither cares about the country, only their own egos and the vendettas they instigate everywhere.
