Obama Now Selling Judgeships for Health Care Votes? Obama names brother of undecided House Dem to Appeals Court. ShareThis 6:15 PM, Mar 3, 2010 · BY John McCormack

Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he's obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson's brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

“Scott Matheson is a distinguished candidate for the Tenth Circuit court,” President Obama said. “Both his legal and academic credentials are impressive and his commitment to judicial integrity is unwavering. I am honored to nominate this lifelong Utahn to the federal bench.”

Scott M. Matheson, Jr.: Nominee for the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit

Scott M. Matheson currently holds the Hugh B. Brown Presidential Endowed Chair at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, University of Utah, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1985. He served as Dean of the Law School from 1998 to 2006. He also taught First Amendment Law at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government from 1989 to 1990.

While on public service leave from the University of Utah from 1993 to 1997, Matheson served as United States Attorney for the District of Utah. In 2007, he was appointed by Governor Jon Huntsman to chair the Utah Mine Safety Commission. He also worked as a Deputy County Attorney for Salt Lake County from 1988 to 1989. Prior to joining the University faculty, Matheson was

Judgeship for a brother? That is small potatoes compared to what they must be offering other Blue Dogs. I imagine political appointments, jobs on K street, or at “Think Tanks”. This Congressman must be a cheap date.

Oh no.

That blue lipped devil is using the promotion of congressmen's FAMILY MEMBERS as a carrot to vote for a health care bill they disagree with?

I am sick.

We have a VERY DIRTY PRESIDENT.

I mean it, he is FITHY! And you cannot WASH away the dirt he carries, it must lay in his soul.

Republicans should block any nominee that’s up for a federal judgeship if they switched their health care vote. Just more Blago Chicago thug pay to play schemes.

They would cover it by saying one line, then follow with a “green” story about Utah, lol.

Isn’t there a thing called “Senatorial courtesy” whereby a senator from the state of a nominated judge can object and, by custom, the Senate will vote not to confirm?

I recall this from an old civics class. I have no idea whether the practice is still followed.

The way I was taught it, “Senatorial courtesy” referred to a president always vetting potential nominees for a state with the senior senator from such state; failing to do so could result in the senior senator onbjecting to the nomination and the other senators would all join him in opposition.

However, the practice was later changed so that the senior senator from the state *from the president’s party* would be the one that would do the vetting. In the case of Utah, there are no Democrat Senators, so Obama would either not vet the nomination at all or, perhaps, have it vetted by the most senior Democrat in Utah’s House delegation (which just happens to be Matheson’s brother).

This comes forth on the day that they make public that their plan is to go Nuclear in the Senate and this so how can selling judgeships be any sort of a surprise to anyone?

Truth be none people, is that we have been sold down the river by a press that is completely in agreement with the End justifying the means of these and every other transgression of our laws, rules, and culture.

The only way this man can succeed is on the back of a treasonous press who will not attack pursuit if truth of 0bama like the would a Conservative like say Bunning.

So the masses have no clue that the Coup is even taking place and Chairman 0bamao is leading the way.

But a reckoning wil come, of that there can be no doubt.

For the last 2 days THE top news story on Yahoo has been Obama “accepting” Republican ideas on healthcare and his “up or down” vote. I have never before seen the top story remain the top story on Yahoo hour, after hour, after hour, after hour... before yesterday and today.

I believe Senators still can put holds on legislation (Bunning) or appointments such as this. This will piss off to high hell some senator to the point that this rep's brother will NEVER , EVER see his judgeship.

I think they would say the tactic 'backfired'.
