The march did not occupy the entire mall as there was another event on the back half which led to some confusion on the crowd size. 2 million was a overestimate put out days before by the left to make 600k look like a failure. But just as 2 million was an overestimate, 100,000 is an underestimate. (Heck, even MSNBC said "hundreds of thousands")

Using this generic crowd estimate map by USA Today you can see the front area alone (which was filled) equals 240,000. Most of the detailed analysis put the count at around 600,000 but sadly some (Like BOR) used a much lower count from a fire source.
