Methane bubbles in Arctic seas stir warming fears
Yahoo news ^ | 03-04-2010 | Alister Doyle

Large amounts of a powerful greenhouse gas are bubbling up from a long-frozen seabed north of Siberia, raising fears of far bigger leaks that could stoke global warming, scientists said.

It was unclear, however, if the Arctic emissions of methane gas were new or had been going on unnoticed for centuries -- since before the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century led to wide use of fossil fuels that are blamed for climate change.

The study said about 8 million tonnes of methane a year, equivalent to the annual total previously estimated from all of the world's oceans, were seeping from vast stores long trapped under permafrost below the seabed north of Russia.

Stirring warming fears is kind of like stirring Muslim anger. All it takes is a funny shaped cloud or one too many pieces of junk mail. Or a bit of bad potato for dinner.

OMG!!!! I can’t believe you actually found stories to back this up! You are the man! I will absolutely read the articles. Thank you so much for finding these! One person actually yelled (in caps) at me for my post. Thanks for proving him wrong! :)

I’ve read that the U.S.Navy currently has torpedos in its arsenal that explode under a vessel creating a void so large that the target ship’s keel snaps, breaking the ship apart.

I would imagine that they used this “Methane bubble” theory to develop it. I find it so diffucult to believe that the global warming zealots are actually linking this to global warming when the folks on this site have proven in minutes that they are wrong.

As I suggested earlier, you can test this theory yourself in the bath tub. All you need is a floatable toy boat and a full tub of water. Just make sure you eat a LOT of beans before beginning the experiment.

Nice exposition but there's a problem. Given the warmist's obvious manipulation of climate data we can no longer trust any graph showing this or that.

Only links to the entire data set and the graphing model subject to "skeptics" review and a period of time to allow for competent analysis will enable we common folk to accept "scientific" pronouncements. Thanks Michael Mann, Al Gore, Phil Jones, James Hansen, etc. - now I have to take my umbrella even if the weatherperson swears there's a zero probability of precipitation. ;-)

Yes, alBore and the rest of the left have seriously damaged the credibility of legit science. Now there are those who don’t even believe well established things like plate tectonics. Very unfortunate.

Maybe algore has been using a submersible to check arctic ice - me thinks we got gore-farts.
