Howard Dean: Health bill hangs Dem incumbents and Obama out to dry in elections By Michael O'Brien - 03/04/10 11:22 AM ET

Passing the healthcare proposals before Congress will "hang out to dry" every Democratic incumbent running for reelection this fall, Howard Dean said Thursday.

Dean, a physician by training who's a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), said that Democrats in Congress -- and President Barack Obama -- would do themselves more harm than good by passing the current healthcare bill.

"The plan, as it comes from the Senate, hangs out every Democrat who's running for office to dry -- including the president, in 2012, because it makes him defend a plan that isn't in effect essentially yet," Dean said during an appearance on the liberal Bill Press Radio Show.

Dean, who has clashed publicly with the White House over the healthcare proposals favored by the administration, said that by passing the bills under consideration, Democrats would essentially be conceding defeat to Republicans.

"It's easy to campaign on repealing something if no one knows what the something is," Dean said. "And fundamentally people don't understand what the president's healthcare plan is."

"And if it passes next week and get's signed into law the week after, we're not going to be able to explain it to people over the din of Fox News and the Republicans," the former Democratic party chairman added.

Dean said that the only solution to correct the bill was to offer a buy-in to Medicare for consumers, which had once been proposed in the Senate, but was ditched by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) as unable to win enough votes to pass.

"The president needs a win here," Dean said.

Gee Howard, is that what this is about? Really?

He may get it passed, but even then it won’t be a win.

An Obama win will hurt the Democrat Party for years and years to come. Many of us will work endlessly to elect people who do listen to the people. Many of us will not forget how the backroom deals and payoffs went down......

Well stated. It is really an excellent example of the suicidal fanaticism of the power-mad extreme left. Maybe from this, some liberals will learn that elections do have consequences.

I have come to the conclusion that Obama is throwing the entire Democratic party under the bus to hopefully save his presidency.

Nothing, NOTHING must let the first black president fail.

And as I have said from day 1 ... The only thing that can save Obama’s presidency is if Republicans take back control of congress and save his community organizing butt, just like they saved Clintons.

If only all of us non-Democrats and working taxpayers were not so stupid, they might be able to get through to us. But if this passes and they are all doomed come election days, it is again all our fault due to our utter ignorance.

(is that what he said? paraphrasing...)

Respectfully disagree. If this criminal enterprise, commonly known as congress, passes this using reconciliation then we can unpass it using reconciliation. Keep your powder dry.

Obama won't win reelection. After that no problem. It is possible that after 2012 we will have a veto proof majority. Meanwhile we can vote it out every six months or so and let PFL BO veto it and put the taxes back on the backs of the American people. Yeah that's the ticket. How they would howl.

First, Obama cares nothing about the Dems in this years midterm elections. They are a means to an end — total government control via Healthcare “reform.”

Second, Obama thinks if the Repubs WERE to win and tamper with his ObamaCare and other agenda items, they would either be backed down by the hue and cry of the media and massive Leftist protests, or if they repealed it, by massive election turn out AGAINST them in 2012 — which under those circumstances he expects to win.

And, even if he lost Congress this November, if he got his ObamaCare passed, there’s a fair chance a national emergency will occur during the next 2 years, allowing him to declare a “National Emergency,” possibly Martial Law, and to suspend the Constitution and Presidential elections.

No, I won’t say that’s likely — but I think it’s now WELL within the realm of possibility — especially with the crowd in Washington DC these days.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

Its even easier when most people (as is the current case) know exactly what the bill is and still hate it.

“Howard Dean speaking truth to power. I’m speechless.”

Actually, he’s doing no such thing. First, no matter what happens, he’ll take credit for it. That is, if the plan dies, he’ll say it’s because Obama pursued a stupid strategy that led to a loss that could have been avoided if only Obama had listened to Howard Dean. Conversely, if the plan passes, the Democrats will pay a price at the polls and Dean can say “I told you so.” Second, in the best case, they’ll listen to his advice, which is to open up Medicare to tens of millions of people. But of course “Medicare for all” is what progressives have wanted all along. So Dean is essentially exploiting the crisis created by Obama’s inept handling of this issue to try and move the outcome in a direction he prefers. Rahm Emanuel isn’t the only one who recognizes that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste.
