Posted on 03/04/2010 3:42:35 PM PST by Nachum
NBC's Tom Brokaw, in searching for a reason as to why Obamacare faced so much opposition, on Thursday's Today show, determined it was because the people can't quite grasp it, as he sniffed: "The public is very confused." The former NBC Nightly News anchor, on to promote his CNBC documentary about the Baby Boom generation, also told Today co-anchor Matt Lauer that the GOP was fighting the current version of the health care bill for merely "political" and not principled reasons and depicted the uninsured as victims to the now powerful tea party.[audio available here]
For his part, a bewildered Lauer expressed disbelief at the unpopular state of the Democratic Party right now as he questioned Brokaw:
"Could you have imagined that a year later the President's popularity numbers would be dwindling, the Democratic Party would be reeling and they'd be justifiably nervous about the midterm elections?"
The following exchange was aired on the March 4 Today show:
MATT LAUER: Let's move on to health care, another subject that's a lightning rod. The President now says he'll go it alone with the Democrats in the Senate and, and in the House, this reconciliation idea. You only need 51 votes. But it's not clear whether he has those votes.

No, it is you Tom who are confused over a great many things!
Tom is a frickin propaganda stooge.
The public has their ducks in a row - the Democrats don’t.
I’m glad that he’s outed himself for who he is.
Man the old farts cling to past glory . Go home you old fool .
Sure Tom, it’s the process that failed here. Sure it is. Those 47 speeches that Obama gave promoting this piece of crap simply weren’t enough to explain it to the American people. Right.
How did Dan Rather put it in 92? The voters went on a TEMPER TANTRUM..?
Can’t wait until the State Controlled Media is HISTORY!
They may commit hari-kari this November when the Tsunami hits.
Being confused over healthcare Tom beats being just plain confused.
Tom is senile
Come on Tom don’t you remember when a very wise President once said at his fist inaugural “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”
I read the entire House bill and the entire Senate bill. Did Brokaw? I watched days of testimony in person, paying attention to the content. Did Brokaw? I looked at how the ideas in the bill have worked in other countries that tried socialized medicine. Did Brokaw? I looked at the economic incentives and how they would affect cost and quality. Did Brokaw?
One of us is confused, and Brokaw thinks it’s me.
Yup, exactly Bambi’s view, that he hasn’t “talked enough” about it to the dumbass American people, otherwise they would be stampeding to get ObamaCare.
Poor Tom, he is just another slave on mac daddies plantation.
Has anyone noticed that Brit Hume and Tom Brokaw sound almost exactly alike?
Isn’t Tom Brokaw the CANADIAN guy who owns a ranch and shoots WOLVES on it?
As an alien here hosted in our country, why do we rely on him to explain our political system..?
NBC = BAD JUDGMENT
Tom needs a good town hall meeting with him in the middle asking question of the one thousand Americans surrounding him. Then he wouldn’t be so confused. IOW Tom, time to shut your mouth that has been running far too long, and finally learn something you should have learned a long time ago.
If it is so great, why won't the Dems pass it with or without the Republicans?
he outed himself decades ago
not Canadian....from the Dakotas not sure which one
It is anchors like Brokaw and Lauer who are “confused” about their roles in the state-run media.
I would say Brokaw is the confused individual, not the public, who correctly smell a shipload of fat rats included in Obamacare! Among the liberties at stake here is private property, your bank account, where you work, live, and what you eat. On and on and on. Brokaw looks like such a clean cut American boy, but he is as treacherous as his Progressive counterparts in league to bring down the good American way of life!
It must be such a burden for "Tom" to have such a rarefied level of intelligence and education, and have to talk down to us dunderheads who didn't receive the quality college experience that he did. His resume is filled with so many accomplishments that it must be embarrassing to share them all with his adoring public.
I stand in awe.
I believe you’re right —it’s Peter Jennings who is Canadian, maybe, yes.
I can’t believe people don’t trust the SEIU with their health care concerns...
yes...Jennings is more a was now since he died a few years ago.
Tom Brokaw dropped out of The University of Iowa, where he says he majored in "beer and co-eds" before receiving his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1964.This is from his Wikipedia Bio which also features a picture of "Tom" the tourguide greeting the 20,000th visitor to the Gavins Point Dam. (Yes. I had to look it up. It's on the Missouri at the northern border of Nebraska.) The bio is almost humorous until he begins being taken seriously.
TOM BROKENJAW CAN KISS MY ASS.
Now, I'm having this teensy "issue" with having my health care confiscated (my provider being driven out of business by impossible regulations and intentionally non-viable business conditions).
The facts are that it will cost me more, I will lose my family doctor, and I'll have to wait in long lines (behind illegal aliens) to see a nurses' aid (trainee) leaves me to wonder why so many on the left really want this.
Don't Democrats, Marxists, and/or media types get sick?
(Or, are they going to have "special" clandestine clinics with real doctors?)
Oh, I once lived in England. Great country, marvelous people; however I did get a firsthand glimpse of socialized medicine. All I can say is take your vitamins, get exercise, and don't get sick, because you really, really do not want "single payer" socialized death care.
I'm confused. Confused as to what's in it for you, Mr. Brokaw.
Yes, Tom, we are soooo stupid. We aren’t part of the intellectual elite like you. We understand nothing. We’re just the unwashed masses trying to buy bread and stale baloney with the pennies our government leaves us. We can’t possibly benefit from the intelligent conversations you have with your friends in Manhattan, or your pals down at NBC-PRAVDA.
Uh . . . Narcissus?
Was. jennings died a while back and apparently still is dead.
I couldn’t have imagined a muslim in the White House only 7 years after 911, Tom.
We’re not confused at all, Tom, you big blowhard. We’re angry because we actually know what’s going on.
Yeah - but I don’t know how to spell some of those long words - but his personality and delivery remind me of a donkey for some reason.
Well now I’ll prolly listen to him more —haven’t watched lamestream news in...15 years now, and feel much better for it.
Well, the truth is, all extreme Leftists are narcissists, wallowing in solipsism (i.e. in the mirror).
Hey Tom, you are looking very foolish. The American people think this bill stinks. Our eyes are wide open, shame yours are not.
Geesh, what an idiot he is.
I’m not confused, I READ.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:
This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollees cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases
By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009
Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.
President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees in fiscal 2010, Matz said. We took them at their word, and I cant believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward, he added.
I believe you are Correcto Mundo in the extreme!
Wasn’t it Tom, during the campaign that said he was a little confused because we “really don’t know much about Obama?”
Know what Obamacare will mean for me?
I am self-employed and I buy my own insurance (with after-tax dollars, which is a disgrace in itself, but I digress). I pay around $320 a month for a high-deductible policy. I'm (touch wood) in good health, don't smoke/drink/take drugs, and I'm happy enough with it.
Under Obamacare, such high-deductible policies are illegal.
Under Obamacare, my policy would be bumped up to include everything: Doctor visits, prescription drugs, etc., all from the first dollar. Of course, my rate would be much higher. I'd be paying double what I pay now, in the mid-$600s a month.
I cannot afford this.
Obamacare would give me the choice between a) paying $7200 a year for insurance or $1000 a year for no insurance. Or going to jail for paying none of the above.
Let me sum up: I am a currently insured person who will be made uninsured because of Obamacare.
As if we needed more proof of the liberal bias in broadcast news, Brokaw demonstrates just how socialistic he is. How many years did he mislead the American people? He may write about the greatest generation, but he is certainly not part of it.
I guess Tom has much to teach all of us uneducated, ill-informed dolts. < /sarcasm>
