But our centuries-old friendship should earn Britain special support in its disputes, even in the relatively unimportant Falklands mess

Such was the decision in the first Falklands War. Sec State Haig did try to mediate, but at the same time was shipping the latest model sidewinder missiles to the Brits, which they later put to good use, putting Argentine French built Mirrages , Israeli built Daggers (Mirage 5 built in Israel, called Nesher (vulture) in Israeli service), and Douglas built Skyhawks, into the South Atlantic.

We also reportedly supplied the Brits with intellegence, satellite imagry and other types.

It was still a very near run thing. The Argentines had much larger numbers, the Brits had much better equipment. On the ground, the Brits had much better troops.

"Until Papa Doc Barack stabbed them in the back over the ABM deployment..."

The Bush Administration told the UK that it would have to wait, because Poland and Czech asked first and will come first. The UK would probably demand all of the design details as part of the deal anyway.

Wait until things go south—and America has her back to the wall—then we shall see how many allies we have. The Poser in chief will not he in office long—a new dynamic US leader will repair the damage in weeks after 1-20-12. Almost anyone would be better than Obama.

Yep. Obammy’s ‘plan’. Isolate the US even further.

Why did the UK let Hong Kong and Zimbabwe go but not the Falklands?

I believe you are correct and VDH is spot on as always. BHO is going out of his way to provoke a diplomatic row with the Brits. He has been since he was immaculated and for the life of me, I can’t figure why. I mean, even for Barry, this one is a no brainer.

Shaking my head in disgust at the thought of the shame of it...

Argentina has no legitimate claim to the Falklands.

In response to all this, the Obama administration announced that it would remain neutral.

If that stupid a$$ was going to "remain neutral", he wouldn't say anything at all.

Hong Kong: lease on the land was up.

Southern Rhodesia: Unilateral Declaration of Independence, same as the 13 American colonies.

Falklands were British and made no expression of independence.

"Falklands were British and made no expression of independence."

Now that's a good argument.

“I hate Barack Insane Obama.”

The idea of ‘Identify,Adapt, and Overcome sounds like the best course of action. With cold detachment and a laser focus on the objective.Which in turn will open up endless opportunities to achieve the goal of Freedom

I know. I am just tired of the socialists and communists in Europe meddling in our affairs. John Bull, you better wake up. The socialist will destroy you completely if you don't.

I used to live in Brisbane as a kid. My Dad developed the city road plan back in the 60s. Last I heard they are still working off of it. Wonderful place we still have friends there.

Some of our FRiends on other threads are insisting that it really looks like Zero's factionalists will try to remain in office extraconstitutionally -- by coup.

His daddy was a Mau-Mau. No doubt Daddy hated the Brits, and now Sonny has to put his finger in their eyes every chance he gets. He is vindictive and aggressive about expressing his enmity -- see various discussions of Obama's subtle finger-gestures to various people, his "fingerology" if you will.

Zero is no statesman, but has the impulses of a tyrant.

The Obamanator has those tendencies, and I can understand the natural reaction from the son of a “colonial”, but, as I said, the people around O are smart enough to figure this one out.

Even the simplest things are hard for this man.

The correct answer: “We have none.”

At the end of the day, among nations Harry Truman's advice to get a dog would seem to apply.

But remember whose PM was sitting there in the gallery of our House of Representatives on 9/12, who ran toward trouble when the smoke was rising, his pockets bulging with antique Royal Navy brass knuckles.

You can't buy friends like that. Yes, Tony Blair had his own agenda, and he wanted to sell America an idea or two. But he was there, man, when "America's new best friends" of the previous month had retired suddenly to their estancias on urgent business, leaving our Canadian friends to expostulate, "well, what does that make us, chopped liver?"

Britain, Australia, and Canada. And don't forget the Kiwis. You won't find straighter or wider backs to catch ours.
