Surely, there is no one who could trust Pelosi's word on any "promise" related to this matter.

With her, ideology prevails over national security and over the ability of her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's liberty as individuals.

When are there going to be enough Democrats to stand up for their posterity, cast off this Far Left agenda, and be remembered as statesmen and stateswomen? Or, is that possible?

Now that the Post has laid it out for everyone to see, how can Pelosi now “game” it. Everyone knows what the game is.

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) has warned that he and other pro-life Democrats are ready to kill health-care legislation unless...

Yeah, I'll believe the dims will stop this when I see it. How many voted against this the first time. How long did it take the dims to put abortion back in the bill? Liars and deceivers all of the dims.

Rep. Bart Stupak and the 12 cannot be so naive as to fall for this trick.

As I posted in another "reconciliation thread", that is the $1,000,0000,0000,0000 question.

There are a couple of things that are new in this article, at least to me. They may be true. They may not be.

Thiessen states

"Only after this bill is passed in the House can the chamber then take up a reconciliation bill and send it to the Senate for its approval.

If so that means there can be no official action by the Senate that could be used to reassure the Stupak Group. If so, that's good. They will have to make their decision based on good old Harry' Reid's promises.

Also, he states that the Bill must originate in the House. That's news to me. But the rules of how it is handled I believe lie in the Senate and they are quite strict. If so anything in the House bill could be trashed by a wave of Joe Biden's hand. All the more reason for the Stupak Bunch to be wary of a deal.

Then add to that the Republican threat to turn the whole reconciliation process into an endless debate and one would think that any rational person, or even a Democrat, could see that there is really no guarantee here that the abortion language will ever make it through the system. And if reconciliation fails then the Stupak Gang gets to go tell their respective Town Hall meetings how Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi made complete asses of all of them.

A Freeper already posted a YouTube town hall by Stupak where he was selling his pre-arranged sellout on requiring his stronger language on abortion be in the reconciliation bill before he signs it (not the Senate bill which is supposed to be "fixed" later).

He reasoned with the audience that (paraphrased) "even if the bill contains some undesirable funding for abortion, the overall greatness of the bill for most Americans would overwhelm the minor negative clause on abortion".

To think this Rat, or any other won't cave is naive.

They are playing politics. Not one of them cares that they are killing this country by leaving the people no choice.

to get an iron-clad commitment from Senate Democrats they will vote to sustain whatever deal she makes.

A promise from politicians? What's that worth?

and second to get an iron-clad commitment from Senate Democrats they will vote to sustain whatever deal she makes.

How would you do that? Short of getting a signed commitment from 50 senators and Joe biden, you have no idea how they will vote. And even a signed agreement cannot commit them to vote a certain way. I'm not even sure it is legal to trade a vote on legislation for something of value, in this case the vote on another piece of legislation.

The senate wouldn't accept Stupak as part of the bill, when they had 40 republicans ready to vote to add that amendment so they only needed 20 democrats. How could they ever vote for Stupak when they need 50 democrats?

And let's say they actually do it? What's to stop them from just having another reconciliation vote later that removes it?

One Reid promises the House that he will renege on deals he made with senators in order to get them to vote for a bill, nobody should ever trust him again, because he could just turn around and screw them next.

Stupak and the other Democrats who are supposedly opposed to the support for abortion in 0bamacare are still socialists who already voted for this abomination the first time through. I wish people here would stop holding them up as some sort of tragic heroes.

Everybody needs to understand that Bart Stupak is, has been, and always will be a democrat. That means, even more so than many Republicans, he has a price.

Rush pointed out yesterday that Bart Stupak has voted consistently to fund Planned Parenthood with Federal money. If he were so damned concerned about abortion he'd have consistently voted against that crap.

He also votes in favor of every other redistributionist crappola that gets floated and makes no bones about it. His district in Michigan is safe because most of the U.P. is on welfare and/or has some connection to unions, and he's got North Ann Arbor aka Traverse City in his district.

Bart Stupak has achieved one thing for sure out of this whole mess, he's gotten national press coverage and his name up in lights. There are enough dumb bells in his district in Michigan that will vote for him using the rationalization that, "well, at least he tries." Those people call themselves Republicans. A day might come when he can translate that mind numbed support into a statewide office such as governor or US Senate. Many voters, unfortunately, have short or no memories. They step into the booth on election day and vote name recognition. This is a very dangerous man.

The problem is, if the House passes this version of the bill, it doesn’t even go back to the Senate. It will go on to Obama for his signature.

Pelosi and Obama and all the liberals can win this battle easily.

All Pelosi and Obama need to do is to go along with whatever changes Stupak and the republicans want for the bill. Then, put it up for a vote.

Whatever the bill contains doesn’t matter. What Pelosi and Obama want is just a bill. Then, in later months or years, they can come back to put into other bills whatever wasn’t in the original. It’s all about incrementally getting what they want. Whatever they don’t get now, they’ll get later. Stupak and the republicans will be helpless later after the initial bill passes. Passing any kind of health-care bill will be the equivalent of the camel getting his nose under the tent.

The liberals aren’t known as progressives for no reason. They have “progressively” changed this country towards socialism. Little by little, this country has become just as socialist as those in Europe and we’re about to surpass them.
