Republicans held on to power for 12 years in part because in the 1995-96 session of Congress, they used it for purpose and the nation benefitted (unfortunately, Bill Clinton benefitted, too). But afterwards, they only used their position to feather their own political nests.

If Republicans regain Congress, will they learn from their past misakes?

If they don’t immediately start implementing plans to massively cut back the size, scope and cost of government, they will be booted out and we can look forward to a third party. The cost of inaction is too great. People want solutions, not blaming it on the last guy whether its Bush, or the Bamster or Dingy Harry Reid or hysterical Nancy Pelosi. If the republicans can’t lead they too will be discarded. And they damn well better start thinking about what life without the Fed is going to be like because that place is about to implode anyway.

Your comment about the Republicans "feathering their own nests" is absurd. There has rarely been a GOP Congressman elected who didn't give up more as a doctor or businessman than he EVER got from government.

Men like Bill Frist who left his practice as a heart and lung transplant surgeon, hardly feathered his own nest and men just like him make up the bulk of the Republicans in Washington.

Men like Randy Cunningham are the exception. He was a gym teacher before becoming the only flying ace to come out of the Vietnam war and I can understand how lobbyists and contractors could influence someone like him. That doesn't excuse him (and he's in JAIL!), but show me ten crooked Democrats and I'll show you, maybe, one crooked Republican.

These blanket GOP statements are dishonest, uninformed and pushed by Democrats.
