California To Create Public Animal Abuser Registry
Slashdot ^ | 3/5/10 | timothy

Posted on 03/06/2010 4:27:27 PM PST by Clint Williams

An anonymous reader writes

"California legislators are moving forward with plans to create a public, online, animal abuser registry identical in function to the public sex offender registry. Is this the slippery slope to further government mandated lists and registries?"

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; US: California; US: Washington
KEYWORDS:
I am guessing that if this goes through it will soon become law in Wa state. We have had some quite high-profile animal-abuse cases. The killing of a donkey(?) resulted in a law called Pasado's Law (or something like that) a while back.

That’s it! That is what California most needs now! Hooray.

And this is as stupid and pointless as the sex offender registry... violent criminals belong in prison, not on lists.

I’m sure it will require a board or bureau as well. That’s what Cali really needs.

That’s the first thing I’d think of when facing a 20 Billion dollar deficit.

HeII, let’s have a animal abuse data base.

What they need is an abuse of Citizens tax money database.

Morons.

I was wondering if an anonymous tip to a blog was a reliable source. But I see that it links to an article in Time Magazine. So, I guess this is true.

And how much is this going to cost? You can’t very well have a registry without having some sort of government bureaucracy to run it, and a web site to run it on.

How about a public abuse registry. List all the socialist politicians on it.

Jiminy Christmas!

If this is what those nuts are spending their time doing, no wonder the state government is collapsing.

This is the State that is releasing 17,000 sex offenders because they can’t afford to support them at their customary level of support.

Typical California.....

....never mind.

I don't want to be the first one on the list for "beating a dead horse."

Good. There’s too many irresponsible people that starve and otherwise neglect animals. If they can’t take care of them, they shouldn’t be allowed to have them. I’m sick of this kind of people. I have no problem with this.

Actually this may not be such a bad idea, if they would just include severe abuse such as torture of animals. Animal cruelty often leads to abuse or murder of humans. We had a case of where a guy held down a beautiful sweet Alaskan Huskey and filed his teeth off to the gums. The animal was unconcious and in shock from pain when the police arrived. And the case that was on TV where those teen boys snatched a cute sweet little dog and tortured it, shot it, and finally put the dog in a garbage bag and tied it shut and set it on fire. They videotaped the whole thing and thought it was hysterical when the little dog would cry out in pain and try to get away. The owner of the dog saw the videos and it was so sad. If they had a data base it might help them find serial killers, etc. As long as they don’t include hunting, etc, on their list.

I would worry what they will call abuse. The sex offender registry includes guys who have had sex with their underage girlfriends. While I don’t condone a 20 year old guy having sex with a 17year old girl, it’s certainly not what the sex offender regostru was intended to do.
