FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- DeVore for California today welcomed the overwhelming, first-ballot endorsement of Chuck DeVore by the California Republican Assembly's 75th annual convention. DeVore's endorsement, by a margin of 194 votes to 89 for distant-second Carly Fiorina, was the first by a statewide Republican organization in the California U.S. Senate race.
The CRA endorsement of Chuck DeVore was the more remarkable for the tremendous effort the Fiorina campaign put into blocking it. With a 2/3 majority required for an endorsement, that campaign needed to secure the support of only a small minority of delegates. To that end: Carly Fiorina herself spent all day Saturday at the convention; delegates found anti-DeVore materials slipped under their hotel room doors; three of Fiorina's endorsing U.S. Senators wrote a letter to the delegates; Fiorina's supporters helped secure a procedural change allowing for a secret ballot; and during voting, delegates were supplied with Carly for California-branded pens.
Carly Fiorina had every advantage money could buy, and the conservative activists of the CRA decisively endorsed Chuck DeVore on the first round.
"I'm sincerely humbled to receive the endorsement of my fellow members of the California Republican Assembly," said Chuck DeVore, "The CRA is, as Ronald Reagan said, 'the conscience of the Republican Party.' That's why I've been a member for 22 years, and that's why I'll keep fighting for the core principles it advances -- all the way to the United States Senate."
Leisa Brug Kline, DeVore for California campaign manager, said, "When Chuck DeVore addressed the CRA yesterday, he said, 'I submit to you that being right beats being rich every time.' With his tremendous first-ballot victory, he's proven right. California's conservatives know who's been with them from the beginning -- and they'll stick with him right through till he beats Barbara Boxer."

Chuck DeVore — it’s that proofreading thing ... sorry
I’m surprised that Fiorina got 89 votes. But then Rudy got a few votes, on the first round, at the 08 NFRA Convention.
Great news none-the-less.
I just submitted a title change request.
BTW, this coming weekend (March 12-14) will be the California Republican Party convention at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, 5101 Great American Parkway, Santa Clara, CA 95054.
We hope to see as many Chuck DeVore supporters attending. We’ll have a booth as well as a hospitality suite Saturday night.
Great news. I’ll see Chuck at the Tea Party in the Hills meeting in Placerville on Tuesday night, Herman Green Middle School 7pm.
Foothill Freepers this is just the man we need to oust Boxer.
WEll now.. if that ain’ the kiss of death. ;-)
I wonder how soon Campbell will step aside and toss his support to Chuck?
I’ve left California, but I remember when Boxer first ran. She was from our local college district, but the reliable lefties there wouldn’t vote for her - they knew her and couldn’t stand her! I do kind of miss CRA; it was a blast to go to the convention. Good luck Chuck!
I’m REALLY glad to see this. Too bad we don’t have as good a candidate for governor, thanks to Arnold, Bush, Rove, Parsky, Wilson, White...
(Arianna Packard)'s letter is a response to one penned by Fiorina backers Sens. James Inhofe, Tom Coburn and Jon Kyl. The three senators wrote, We are proud to endorse her as a fellow conservative who has real-world business experience and the guts and moxie to take on Barbara Boxer and win. Carly is not a Washington insider. She is a proven business leader who understands the economy and advocates a strong national defense.
Packard slammed their position, arguing that Fiorina is a failed businesswoman.
allow me to disillusion you of a few of your stated reasons for supporting her, she wrote. You write that she is a proven business leader. This may be how she spins her career, but most business commentators consider Fiorina's tenure at HP to be a disaster.
In addition to criticizing stock price drops and layoffs during Fiorinas reign, Packard criticized Fiorina's positions on Internet taxation, global warming, education, judicial nominations and affirmative action.
If Ms. Fiorina is what passes for conservative in Washington today, then the establishment has veered sadly to the left, Packard wrote. (SNIP)
Chuck De Vore drew about 500 people to the Tea Party in the Hills meeting tonight. He is a well grounded conservative who can articulate his philosophy. He knows the facts and the numbers. He spoke for well over an hour with no notes. He spoke of limited government based on the Declaration and the Constitution. He talked about the war between believers in those documents and the Statists.
After his talk, he took questions for about a half hour. One lady said that she was sick of all the fighting and name calling and that he was as bad as the liberals were. He asked her if she would have him work with Nancy Pelosi to achieve socialism at a 30% speed or just go with her 100% speed. He said that he’s going to reverse course and head in the direction of liberty and if that requires harse words so be it, as socialism is not acceptable.
He received a standing ovation and almost universal support from the crowd. This is a candidate who deserves support and probably the only one who can win against Boxer. He’s the only one who knows what he stands for and why.
