Roy Ashburn, the conservative California state senator who was arrested last week for drunk driving after reportedly leaving a gay bar, has acknowledged that he is gay.
CBS13 reports that Ashburn made the announcement to a radio station where he used to host a talk show.
"I'm gay," he told radio host Inga Barks, according to the Sacramento Bee. "Those are the words that have been so difficult for me for so long."

“Isnt he divorced with 4 kids?”
Yes, the article says he’s divorced. I wonder if that was the cause of the divorce.
I despise men, knowing they are gay, who marry women to hide the fact.
Like the Diceman put it, “You either, or you don’t, there is no in-between.”
Or, as my kids say, “It’s not ‘gay’ as in happy, but ‘gay’ as in ‘marries another man’ Ewwww! Gross!” LOL.
The homosexuality may have caused the divorce but the homosexuality may have also driven him to drink.
The Left is celebrating his homosexuality but not condemning the DUI charge.
I don’t see drinkers saying “he’s one of us”.
I guess he'd know.
Wow, you can get that out of all the swearing from the Diceman?
How does that joke go?
If you build a brink wall on your property, that doesn’t permit you to call yourself a bricklayer but if you **** one sheep...
Yeah, please clarify. Gay-happy or gay-man loving gay?
Let us hope he is now toast.
I don’t care what this freak does in private, but why in the hell did he have to publicly identify as ‘gay’? What politician announces their bedroom preference to the electorate? Now that he’s embracing the behavior unrepentantly, does that mean he will continue to hunt for young Latin immigrant boys in the middle of the night? Sick, sick, sick.
When is this fraud/pervert going to retire?
Ashburn, a divorced father of four, has repeatedly voted in opposition to gay rights, and in 2005 hosted a rally in favor of "traditional marriage." He has voted against expanding anti-discrimination laws to include sexual orientation, recognizing out-of-state gay marriages and establishing a day honoring gay lawmaker Harvey Milk.
The Sacramento Bee reports that Ashburn said Monday morning he made the votes because they reflected the feelings of the voters in his district.
"I have always felt that my faith and allegiance was to the people, there, in the district, my constituents," he said. "And so as each of these individual measures came before the Legislature I cast 'no' votes, usually 'no' votes, because the measures were...almost always acknowledging rights or assigning identification to homosexual persons."
Can he? He’s a Colonel USAF reserve...wouldn’t DADT apply?
They are, indeed, mutually exclusive.
Nobody is GAY
Its a lifestyle choice. NO ONE IS BLUE, or A PONY or A DAFFODIL if they say it.
He likes to stick his penis in another man’s rectum because he enjoys it.
He’s just another soul that has been unable to overcome the pain of sexual misidentification. He’s confused.
He’s been a solid supporter of the family on his votes and the public should try to help this guy instead of killing him and destroying him.
IF YOU LOVE JESUS THEN WE SHOULD ACT LIKE JESUS AND HELP THIS GUY HEAL AND CHANGE.
That’s my .02
“I’m gay,” he told radio host Inga Barks
I don't know that he had much choice - he was seen in a gay bar, left with another man, and caught in the DUI. After that hit the news, others started coming forward saying that he was frequently at gay bars. Makes sense for a politician to admit something that's going to come out (in both senses) anyway. Not that I think it's going to help him, or should help him, but it's his best chance for political survival.
