News Corp. Units Head to Abu Dhabi
Wall Street Journal ^ | MARCH 8, 2010, 1:10 P.M. ET | CHIP CUMMINS

ABU DHABI—News Corp.'s Fox International Channels said Monday it is basing the Middle East operations of its global online advertising network in Abu Dhabi and setting up an office here for its documentary-production arm.

Fox International said it would also move some broadcasting operations related to its Mideast channels from Hong Kong and other locations to Abu Dhabi.

The moves are the latest by a handful of large, international media outlets to establish footholds in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The city-state, in an effort to diversify away from oil, has set out to lure a number of global industries, including chip-making, aviation and media.

Media companies, meanwhile, have recently shown fresh interest in the Mideast, attracted by the region's large and growing youth population, its strong economic-growth prospects and its relatively undeveloped media.

"The deal for us is a further step in a two-year-old program of building up our business in the Middle East," said David Haslingden, Fox International chief executive.

Fox International broadcasts a number of free-to-air channels and pay-television channels in the Mideast, including the National Geographic Channel and Fox Sports. Fox International said the moves will be in partnership with Abu Dhabi's twofour54, a government-controlled media entity.

The partnership comes after News Corp. last month said it would spend $70 million for a 9.1% stake in Arabic media giant Rotana Group, with an option to double that stake. Rotana is owned by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who owns 7% of News Corp.'s Class B voting shares.

I figure this is Murdoch rattling his sword at the various taxing authorities here and in Europe. "Screw with me enough and I'll move the whole thing to Abu Dahbi."

I'm surprised more New York banks haven't done the same thing.

If you are going to operate in the middle east, Abu Dhabi is probably the best place to be based.

Well that would be okay if FOX retained integrity. But low and behold, they are all in support of muzzies. They are even making their peeps come out against Geert.

This may be the beginning of the end for FOX. Good going FOX.

It worries me to see so many freepers knee-jerk this story. If one isn’t willing to at least read 2-3 paragraphs of a posted piece- maybe it’s wise to not comment. Having done it myself and felt like an idiot later- I learned ;)

Now we have mass hysteria fueled by poorly written and headlined stories with countless people thinking by now that FOX is moving to the Middle East and men weeping and gnashing their teeth thinking of Julie Banderas in an hijab...

So much for Fox being fair and balanced on the War on Islam.

I would not consider it a big deal if I failed to notice that FOX is working against those who oppose the Muslim takeover of the world. All at once, mind you.

Money talks, fools walk.
