News Corp. Units Head to Abu Dhabi
Wall Street Journal ^ | MARCH 8, 2010, 1:10 P.M. ET | CHIP CUMMINS

ABU DHABI—News Corp.'s Fox International Channels said Monday it is basing the Middle East operations of its global online advertising network in Abu Dhabi and setting up an office here for its documentary-production arm.

Fox International said it would also move some broadcasting operations related to its Mideast channels from Hong Kong and other locations to Abu Dhabi.

The moves are the latest by a handful of large, international media outlets to establish footholds in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The city-state, in an effort to diversify away from oil, has set out to lure a number of global industries, including chip-making, aviation and media.

Media companies, meanwhile, have recently shown fresh interest in the Mideast, attracted by the region's large and growing youth population, its strong economic-growth prospects and its relatively undeveloped media.

"The deal for us is a further step in a two-year-old program of building up our business in the Middle East," said David Haslingden, Fox International chief executive.

Fox International broadcasts a number of free-to-air channels and pay-television channels in the Mideast, including the National Geographic Channel and Fox Sports. Fox International said the moves will be in partnership with Abu Dhabi's twofour54, a government-controlled media entity.

The partnership comes after News Corp. last month said it would spend $70 million for a 9.1% stake in Arabic media giant Rotana Group, with an option to double that stake. Rotana is owned by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who owns 7% of News Corp.'s Class B voting shares.

You need to pay attention to the slow FOX tease toward the embrace of Islam. It is very subtle, but it is there.

>> So long, Fox News. It was nice to know ye.

Yet we still buy ME oil. At least the revenue flow is reversed in this case.

I’ve seen/heard what you mean- but I’m not sensing a major shift. Sometimes I forget that Fox SAYS it’s fair and balanced- hence we get views we don’t always like.

The bit about Wilder though- that threw me- it was odd- normally their research is better.

Well that would be okay if FOX retained integrity. But low and behold, they are all in support of muzzies. They are even making their peeps come out against Geert.

Which peeps?

I watch FNC every day and I haven't seen it.

Yesterday with Jim Angle sitting in for Bret Baier, the story was covered in the news segment and again with the panel. Charles and Bill Kristol both spoke about Geert.

Looking thru the Newscorp keyword list found this one...from Drudge:

MURDOCH WARNS: NATIONS WILL BE REDEFINED, FUTURES ALTERED

****************************EXCERPT***********************

Media baron Rupert Murdoch issued an urgent internal communication late Monday, warning his staff: "We are in the midst of a phase of history in which nations will be redefined and their futures fundamentally altered."

Notice that the move affects Fox’s international/middle eastern broadcasting assets. I don’t see the leap that connects this to the downfall of our domestic Fox News content.
