House Democrats looking at 'Slaughter Solution' to pass Obamacare
Washington Examiner ^ | 03/10/10 | MARK TAPSCOTT

Posted on 03/11/2010 5:37:29 AM PST by BarnacleCenturion

Would House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow House Democratic leaders try to cram the Senate version of Obamacare through the House without actually having a recorded vote on the bill?

Not only is the answer yes, they would, they have figured out a way to do it, according to National Journal's Congress Daily:

"House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.

"Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version.

"Slaughter has not taken the plan to Speaker Pelosi as Democrats await CBO scores on the corrections bill. 'Once the CBO gives us the score, we'll spring right on it,' she said."

Each bill that comes before the House for a vote on final passage must be given a rule that determines things like whether the minority would be able to offer amendments to it from the floor.

In the Slaughter Solution, the rule would declare that the House "deems" the Senate version of Obamacare to have been passed by the House. House members would still have to vote on whether to accept the rule, but they would then be able to say they only voted for a rule, not for the bill itself.

This is a socialist putsch. It’s almost time to take up arms, folks.

Go ahead, Rats. Make it even easier for the USSC to overturn this unpopular bill.

Maybe in about 30 years.

Never going to happen. Make absolutely no mistake: if/when the big totalitarian takeover becomes official, the military will side with the government.

See the last days of the USSR.

When the communist hardliners staged a coup and took the government away from Gorbechov they thought the Soviet military would side with them. The military didn’t.

New every morning.... Just when I think I’ve heard it all - they come up with a new “scheme” - they really, really think we are stupid!!!

Nobody did anything when federal firearms laws were passed, nobody did anything when Congress mandated farmers produce a certain crop in a certain quantity, nobody did anything when Congress mandated burning food to use as a fuel source for vehicles...

I predict we'll do nothing about this as well.

Let’s see:

Nancy has the votes....she said so herself.....oh wait, she doesn’t so lets try some slaughter rule.

We can trust Harry to get it done.....oh wait, House Dems don’t trust Harry or the Senate.

Barry only wants a simple up or down vote.....oh wait, let’s use reconciliation....

Democrats have a mandated majority....but they can’t agree on anything.....so blame it on those nasty republicans....

The true nature of the Democrats is becoming increasingly clear to the American public. They are arrogant, slimy elitists who will do anything or say anything to achieve the causes that they have decreed to be correct. To Hell will the country, it is all about them, power and the money.

Hopefully there are a few principled democrats still in the house that will vote on the principles that made this country great. They will vote to accurately represent the people who put them in congress and stop Barry’s government takeover of health care. November can’t get here soon enought.....

Can you imagine the news coverage taking place if it was the republicans controling congress and they were attempting moves like this to get a bill they wanted voted on and sent to Bush?

There are various names being given to this "rule", some have more mileage than others... Slaughter Rule, Chavez Rule, etc.

IMHO, the best I've seen, and perhaps to latch onto for maximum effect is: "The Zero-Majority Rule". Plays on the 60-vote, 41-vote, 50+1 vote, nomenclature... and has the added cherry-on-top aspect that it plays on 0bama/Zero (otherwise known as -21bama).

I feel the same way, except every time it happens, every day that passes that they remain unopposed because we do nothing, I realize their “schemes” are working.

I agree. If they did not vote on a bill, why would anyone follow it? Most judges would through the entire case out stating that it is not law and still a bill. Most states would not enforce it and tell the feds to ________.

The good news I am seeing from this is that this is proof that they don’t have the votes in the House to pass this thing.

Don't know why they would do this since Pelosi said she had the votes.

I doubt Oath Keepers will amount to more than a piss in the wind.

I quit when I realized they decided to water it down and ban all talk of militias and such because they couldn’t get active duty military and LEOs to join. These are their intended primary members, and the only folks who might really be in a position one day to activate their ten oaths. They wouldn’t join because it might jeapordize their security clearances and government pensions and such! Birds in gilded cages.

Do you think they would REALLY risk their perks by disobeying a direct order when the time came? They work for the Man, bought and paid for already by the Man. Few will turn on their master and bite the hand that feeds them when the time comes. Maybe some will, but it will not be a critical mass, most likely.

USA, largest banana republic in the world.

What will it be folks? Rebellion or serfdom?

It may be time to start studying the manuals of the resistance organizations in WW2 Europe.

“Slaughter is the operative word.”

Right - it’s the Slaughter of America - and don’t you doubt it. As long as we’re defining terms, that is way more negative than ‘reconciliation’ and akin to nuclear option. Hey, I know these things have specific meanings, but that’s not the way the (idiot) media game is played, is it...
