House Democrats appear set to pass Senate bill without voting on it
The Daily Caller ^ | 03/12/10 | Jon Ward

Republicans now expect Democrats to pass health care through the House with a trick only Capitol Hill could dream up: approving the Senate bill without voting on it.

Democrats will vote on a separate bill that includes language stating that the original Senate bill is “deemed passed.”

So by voting for the first bill — a reconciliation measure to fix certain things in the Senate bill — that will automatically pass the second bill — the original Senate bill — without a separate roll call taking place.

It’s called the “Slaughter Solution” (prepare for a weekend of endless TV gabbing about it).

And after debating House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer on the chamber floor, Minority Whip Eric Cantor emerged convinced that Democrats are going to use the tactic, and that they won’t allow Republicans, and the public, to see the text of any legislation for 72 hours before a vote.

“I can infer that we’re going to see a rule that will deem the Senate bill as having passed, and at the same time not even have 72 hours to even look at what they are passing,” Cantor, a Virginia Republican, said in an interview outside his office at the Capitol.

Also check out Hugh Hewitt website. He has a email system to send letters to Blue Dogs.

He also has a link to the Tim Burns, the Republican trying to take Murtha’s old seat.

Send him a contribution to send a message to the Democrats.

It isn’t Constitutional, but since when did that bother the Democrats?

They are behind closed doors the democrats can’t even get through. It’s not just a takeover of health care. It’s an all out TAKEOVER. No wonder they resent the term takeover cuz that’s what this is about. It’s not about health care.

I know... I've never seen anything like this in my life... it's scaring me half to death, but we must continue to fight these Marxists every step of the way.

I don't think I'll get a decent night's sleep until this "healthcare" monster is officially DEAD, but by then, Zero and his Marxists will be onto some other outrageous thing.

November can't come soon enough...

Yikes, my brain is so burnt out that I forgot a bunch of cases, not the least of which is Dunn v. Blumstein, which held unconstitutional lengthy state residency requirements for voting. While I think the case of naturalized citizens might be distinguishable and while I disagree with Dunn anyway, that and the other modern voting rights cases pretty much preclude any state exclusion of recently naturalized citizens (even naturalized illegals) from voting.

Which of course leads us back to the disturbing situation of Congress having the unchecked power to define its own electorate. That's just one reason why I disagree with most of the voting rights jurisprudence and agree with Justice Harlan that the 14th Amendment is silent on the "right to vote" beyond what it says in section 2.

Actually, unless someone calls for a quorum, technically they can do it.

No, this has nothing to do with that. That had to do with reconciliation after/if the House passes the senate bill. This is about the House sneakily passing the senate bill under cover of darkness, in secrecy, without a quorum present.

Oops, sorry, I had this thread mixed up with another thread about Pelosi washing her hands of the Stupak people and stating they’re going to pass it anyway. What I said to you in my last post was commenting on how they would do that. Yes, the Slaughter “deemed” scam is (supposedly) dead. And, as I said, the parliamentarian ruled on the whole reconciliation thing. He said reconciliation can only be done to an actual law (bill passed and signed into law) but he didn’t rule on what the content of a reconciliation bill is limited to. Apparently he plans to cross that bridge if and when he comes to it.

Sorry if I confuzzed you. :)

An “Oops” to you, too. Please see my post #207 for explanation of my first post to you. I mixed up this thread with another.

I don’t see the SCOTUS taking up the case based on a House rule violation, but there will be a smorgasboord of substantive issues for them to take up, even though the provisions don’t take effect for four years.

No. The bill Pelosi is trying to pass IS the senate bill. If it passes the HOuse, it goes to zero for his signature, making it law.

The reconciliation bill would be created by the senate and could only apply to the actual law, not a bill, and is supposed to only address budgetary issues. It’s sort of a housekeeping money bill and isn’t supposed to be used for policy changes/additions/repeals.

Yeah......and then the four good justices would vote for repeal and the lefty justices would vote to let it stand so that the rat-lead congressional bodies do what they want when they how they want.

Is thus gets signed into law, Look for martial law to come about. The Supreme Court must rule this legislation unconstitutional.

We revert back to the Original Constitution.

As Mark Levin explains, it is not constitutional.

Through his association with Landmark Legal Foudation he is preparing if necessary to fight this travesty in the courts.

The Rats are telling the American people FU.

Friday night Mark used the words lawlessness, tyranny, and unconstitutional. Many Freepers took an oath in their youth to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same

The problem we have here is that until Pelosi’s Politburo actually does this, there really isn’t any way to stop them. You cannot challenge in court that which does not exist, or an action that has not yet occurred. Nobody knows for certain what is in this thing, and apparently nobody will know until sometime after it becomes the law.

Once this atrocity is “passed” and Premier Hussein signs it into law, then there is something to base a legal challenge on. That’s why the Dhimmies are keeping all of this behind closed doors, in order to keep from giving anyone a head start on a legal challenge.

The way I see it, what needs to happen once this bill is signed, IF it is signed, is for several gutsy State Attorneys General to immediately file a lawsuit, request Class Action status and an emergency stay to prevent any aspect of this from going into effect until the Court can examine it. If there are as many unconstitutional provisions in this bill as we all suspect, the Supreme Court will no doubt be involved eventually, but we are a long way from that.

I’m afraid we will have to watch the Democrats actually shred the Constitution as opposed to them just threatening to do it, before we can do anything about it.

Not sure of the circumstances, but both shots are of the USS Iowa back in the day, so except for color enhancement, perhaps, I would bet they’re pretty darn authentic and unadulterated photos.
