Arms crossed defensively and her face fixed in a frown, Carla Bruni cut a sombre figure in Paris yesterday. France's first lady had plenty to think about amid growing talk that both she and her husband Nicolas Sarkozy are having affairs. The 43-year-old had been left behind in the capital while the French president made an official visit to London. He appeared delighted to be away from the rumour mill and seemed almost ecstatic on meeting Gordon Brown in Downing Street.
The 55-year-old is said to be romancing his ecology minister Chantal Jouanno, a karate champion who is his junior by 15 years.
Miss Bruni is said to be involved with musician Benjamin Biolay, 37.
The allegations, which surfaced on the internet, are roundly denied.

Like anyone in France cares.
Europe is morality barren
Who cares? Eurotrash...behaving...well like ...Eurotrash!!
WHO CARES.
I suppose this is better than watching Nancy’s eyebrows twitch while she is fibbing.
“Europe is morality barren”
Nah, just mainly open to individual interpretation.
Which is pretty much the same thing.
According to the French magazine L’Express, the rumour began as a hoax by a French trainee journalist. He wanted to see how easy it was to get an unverified assertion from the chat website Twitter on to random blogs and into the mainstream media. If so, he succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. The Carla and Sarko “rumours” have appeared in newspapers in Britain and Italy and websites in the United States.
If it comes to a fight between Chantal Jouanno and Carla Bruni, Carla had better run...Jouanno was the French champion 12 times. Of course, being France, that may just mean she didn’t run!
Gee.. I’m sure this “trainee” will be inundated with offers from NYTimes, MSNBC et al....
Not that Minister Jouanno is unattractive, she’s not, but...I wouldn’t make that trade.
Well, I would never make the trade for the woman I was married to... But Chantal for Carla, straight up, no rings involved, I would go with Chantal. Matter of preference, I guess...
Chantal Jouanno, secrétaire dEtat chargée de lEcologie.
One consideration, Chantal is French. You know how that ends up all to often. Carla is Italian. Frosty French, or Incendiary Italian. You chose.
What does Sarkozy and the Tiger have in common? It seems both enjoy rough sex.
In reality, she’s carrying my love child. I am serious, I would never lie.
She doesn’t look like someone one would want to leave behind.
NOT GUILTY !!!!
Congratulation will you be naming the bundle of joy a name that doesn’t sound like a girls name on this side of the pond?
