I’m to the right of Godzilla and I’ve been here for over a decade, so stick your pathetic, infantile attempts at insults.

Now try actually using your freakin’ head, for once. Do I have to point out the stupidity of your “argument”?

God how I loathe “keyboard cowboys”...

-——————Use your heads and lose the conspiracy theories.-——————

All I did was ask the question, why is ABC choosing sides here.

But ok. Let’s not ask the question and simply stick with what’s known, provable, and verified.

ABC lied. You know it and I know it. It’s been proven. They even had to what...... change the video on their website did they not? They had real life examples of information that they could have used and instead they created a P.R. fiasco for themselves.

That’s what this thread is about.

—————There have been dozens of these incidents and more than a few have resulted in fatalities.——————

Which does not give ABC a blank check to stage the things it wishes.

-———I don’t give a flying fiddler’s damn about ABC————

They’ve been propagandizing our nation for decades, you should care.

Anybody they consider an enemy is a friend of mine. Therefore, I stand with toyota and against ABC. For me, it is that simple.

Toyota does *NOT* deserve any defence for it’s products proven faulty, but anybody including toyota deserves defence against propagandists who masquerade as journalists. And that’s where I stand.

-———To equate legitimate criticism of Toyota with defense of ABC is beyond the pale.-———

If that was what came across from my posting I appologize. That was not my intent.

But ABC deserves all the egg that’s on it’s face for this. If they want their credibility back they are simply going to have to stop taking sides and stop manufacturing the news.

Surely you can agree with that.

My post was to the whole thread here.....but since you responded thusly:

I guess you missed the part earlier when I said I don’t give a flyin’ fiddler’s damn about those lying bastards at ABC.

Now, why don’t you scroll up and satisfy my curiosity here. Where do you get even the slightest hint that I’m actually defending ABC? I’m really curious. This oughta be good.

There was no “error”. It was a deliberate falsification and inteneded to mislead.

Liberal media is intent on helping “Gov’t Motors” and is doing so at the behest of the Administration.

You sound as if people who buy Toyotas are subject to different sales techniques then those who buy American cars. What nonsense. No one is ever forced to buy undercoating and as someone who had 22 years in the business I can tell you hat with the rust guarantees from the mfg, no dealer I knew of after 1995 ever “rustproofed” their cars, before sales and made the customer pay.

AS for the double sales tax charge, there are laws against that and to suggest somehow Toyota is responsible is just plain foolish. Besides, anyone stupid enough to fall for these 100 yr old gimmicks deserves what they get. The are proving the laws of natural selection are alive and well.

Toyota DOES have serious issues, and they ARE dealing with them.

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100112/CARNEWS/100119974

Once this modification is in place, there will never again be a runaway Toyota in the news, unless it truly is a fake report.

The Honda sales man pointed out the little led on the Civic pedal, kind of glowed a bright green...now whether or not the salesman was wrong and there was a fail safe linkage to the engine, Ican’t tell you that. As for the Toyota’s I was told the throttle was “computer controlled” in our Corolla.

Hey, I’m a Toyota man, we own a Corolla Sport 2009 model...Toyota will fix its issues. I just think that there may be limits as to the digitalization of control mechanics.

Hey I was shown the positioning sensor on the 2009 honda Civic with its little glowing LED on the accelerator pedal...perhaps the salesman had some of his facts wrong. Wired or not, it’s still all drive via IP or similar protocol and subject to being FUBARed under the right conditions. The question is should there be some type of failsafe back-up mechanically controled linkage to the throttle if the digital interfaces screw up?

I don’t think you’re defending ABC. I will appologize to you again.

This thread is about the lying bastards at ABC. If you care not for that topic, then why are you here?

You weren’t “nice”, I’m certainly neither an “idiot” nor “some UAW retiree” or anything remotely close to either.

I simply said that Toyota has genuine problems, despite ABC’s idiocy on-air. Now scroll up and see who jumped whom here.

Oh....and the only ones who can ever call me “gramps” would be my grandchildren.

Apology accepted. I didn’t come on the thread to be a “provocateur”. If you look early in this discussion, people immediately started equating ABC’s journalistic malfeasance with some US government/GM plot......completely, utterly ridiculous.

It’s fine for us to call an ABC or NBC or any of them on their shenanigans. It’s NOT fine for FReepers to start seeing conspiracies under every rock. Makes us look like the kooks that the left is always accusing us of being.

Well, I don’t know what their intent was. I’m just explaining how such a thing could have happened. The technique is all right for documentaries and movies, but not in news gathering, unless it’s explained.

That bit about the little LED on the pedal is interesting; it also sounds like a goofy feature. I'll be sure to look for it and ask my salesman the next time I have my '94 Accord in to the dealer for service. (I'll give him yet another chance for him to sell me a new Honda too, heh-heh.)

The system is, literally, drive-by-wire; no wireless (RF or optical) links involved. Way too expensive and unreliable to use anything else.

There are two links in this chain: from the pedal to the computer, and then from the computer to the throttle plate. As for protocol, one or both may be either a simple direct connection to the mechanics (such as a voltage from a potentiometer or a pulse train to a motor) or may be the standard CAN, or Controller Area Network, bus.

With regard to reliability and cost, the manufacturers spend years trying to verify two things before ever putting something like drive-by-wire into production:

1a. Is it cheaper, when comparing its cost directly to the thing it replaces, and considering also any knock-on cost effects on related systems, and possible warranty costs?

1b. If it's more expensive, does it provide advantages disproportionate to the increase in cost? Advantages can be either technical or consumer-subjective. (This latter is of course hard to gauge, but the marketing department does its best.)

2. Is it as reliable or moreso than what it replaces? There are obvious potential long-term costs if it isn't. I have witnessed the analysis and testing the makers do long before they put any new component or system into production.

Unfortunately, complex systems become extraordinarily difficult to test with complete thoroughness. There may be potential system failures of a type that the designers didn't even anticipate. So the replacement of any system with one which is (characteristcally, these days) more complex than the old one is an occasion of risk; and that risk itself is the hardest thing of all to estimate.

It is on 2009 Civics...it won’t be on 1994 ones.
