Critics Decry Matt Damon Movie 'The Green Zone,' Calling It 'Anti-American'
Fox News ^ | 3/11/1- | Joe Piazza

While "The Hurt Locker" was largely apolitical in its stance on the Iraq War, some say "The Green Zone" goes too far in blaming the United States government and manipulates audience members into rooting against American troops.

The movie centers on Army Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, played by Damon, who is assigned to search for weapons of mass destruction in the weeks following the shock-and-awe campaign of 2003.

When Miller encounters roadblocks in his search, he launches a one-man internal investigation into the United States government's intelligence gathering operations, forming a secret alliance against the men he is sworn to protect in order to get the bottom of what he believes is a conspiracy.

Given this set-up, audiences are encouraged to root for Miller's rogue activities and against the government, represented in the film by a corrupt Pentagon chief played by Greg Kinnear.

The line between good guy and bad guy becomes fuzzy -- so much so that audiences are unsure whether to cheer on Sunni Iraqi insurgents as they shoot down a helicopter filled with American soldiers sent to assassinate them on the Pentagon's request.

Movie reviewer Kyle Smith went so far as to label the film "slander" and "appallingly anti-American."

"'Green Zone' isn't cinema," Smith wrote. "It's slander. It will go down in history as one of the most egregiously anti-American movies ever released by a major studio."

Are you saying that Tom Hanks used to be somewhat normal?
I have a feeling that in private these people may have a different attitude, but they feel to appeal to the powers in Hollyweird they have to spew their venom. Or most likely they have just become part of the crowd That is just one thought. I rarely go to movies anyway nowdays, it is kind of tortue. I went to Avatar and really failed to see the greatness of it. However, if one watches great movies such as Goodbye Lenin, Sophie Scholl, then it really makes the so called blockbuster movies look lame.

With these people, Zinn was a founder of the radical New Party-later made famous by one of its most successful members, Barack Obama.

Wow....thanks for the link.

Apparently this movie is based ‘loosely’ on Army chief warrant officer Richard (Monty) Gonzales, I’d like to read his review of the movie...(I think)

I’m just glad they called it the Green Zone rather than the IZ (International Zone) as it is appropriately called by everyone in the real world. Green zone is a historical reference to the Lebanese civil war where Christian areas were called green zones. Those liberals making the same analogy are hoping for the same outcome.

Wow! No kidding a Hollywood dirtball staring in an anti American film. What a shock I can't believe it. Stopped watching movies a long time ago as soon as I started paying attention. To each his own but I pay no attention to the douche bags in Hollywood.

Last night a friend mentioned he was going to see this POS movie. Once informed of its liberal bent, he decided he’d spend his money elsewhere.

While the Blind Side did make $250 million, The Hurt Locker has made less than $15 million. BoxOfficeMojo

Did someone expect a pro American movie to come from Hollywood?

Can someone watch a pirated copy of this so we can know how bad it is without lining the pockets of the Hollywood Left?

The bad thing is that Damon has quite a following from the Bourne movies, so this movie might have an audience.

I've only watched this leftist in the “Ocean's” trilogy. I have yet to watch 1 second of Good Will Hunting with his buddy Ben Affleck, who I've only watched in Clear and Present Danger.

Besides being anti-American leftists these two don't do anything acting-wise for me.

If you want to see a REAL movie ABOUT our troops and what THEY go through, with NO politics, not one Hollywood finger on it, watch for “RESTREPO”.

The ‘actors” - the troops themselves, (live link below)

The writers/directors - long time war correspondents. Sebastian Junger (wrote “Perfect Storm”) and award winning Brit filmographer, Tim Hetherington.

They embedded with a small platoon of the renowned 173rd AIRBORNE, 2-503rd BATTLE CO, in “The Most Dangerous Place on EArth” - the Korengal Valley in the high Hindu Kush mts. of north eastern Afghanistan, up against the Paki border.

BATTLE Co., first deployment was a hellishly long 15 months, out on a spit of mountain side that they literally pick axed for shelter and cover - pick axed at night, fought by day. They were to fight through over 1,000 firefights in that first deployment, taking the heaviest KIA/sounded losses.

Junger and Hetherington were boot on the ground with the troops for a year - not the usual 2-3 weeks. They became part of the platoon, running, dodging bullets - junger was even in a vehicle that struck an IED and was wounded.

They simply filmed and recorded in REAL TIME - day by exhausting day, fire fight by harrowing firefight - as it happened. No script, no politics, no ‘brass’.

to keep Hollywood totally out of it, they submitted the film for possible showing at the Sundance Film Festival. Out of the handfull of documentaries (out of over 800 submitted) it accepted for showing.

It created a firestorm...and went on to win top prize: The Grand Jury Award.

National Geography has purchased the broadcast rights and will air it this fall. And the DVD will follow. Theatrical rights are still in negotiation, but it is being shown at film festivals in major cities across the country.

So if you are really interested in seeing the raw truth and the unimaginable bravery of our troops, without the spin, watch for “Restrepo” (Junger has also written a book about it, “WAR”, coming out in mid-May, available for pre-order on Amazon.)

Why is anyone surprised. Damon has spouted Anti-American crap for the past two years. He verges on being an anarchist.
He has just been emboldened by the election of Zero. Now he is on a one man mission to destroy the U.S.

Stop supporting these commie/fascist/socialist/Dum actors.
YOU pay their salaries.

Most of the stuff I enjoy in the Bourne series centers around intelligence and espionage. They could put Paul Reubens in one of those types of movies, and I’d watch it.

The quality and focus of war movies has gone from the veneration of American ingenuity (i.e. Battleground or Von Ryan’s Express) to denigration of American “power,” as if to say that we should be fighting with bolt-action rifles and bayonets again.

The media, esp. Hollywood, doesn’t get it.
