President Obama changing 'No Child Left Behind'
New York Daily News ^ | 3/14/2010 | Rachael Monaghan

Posted on 03/14/2010 6:29:15 AM PDT by IbJensen

President Obama announced plans Saturday to overhaul the controversial No Child Left Behind act - even dropping its well-known name.

The new Elementary and Secondary Education Act will focus on providing incentives to schools that make progress toward better educating the nation's students instead of punishing schools that don't meet benchmarks, Obama said.

During his weekly radio address, Obama said that he expects to submit to Congress tomorrow a blueprint for dismantling No Child, which was adopted under former President George Bush.

The plan focuses on preparing students for college and careers and on bolstering teachers' skills.

"Under these guidelines, schools that achieve excellence or show real progress will be rewarded, and local districts will be encouraged to commit to change in schools that are clearly letting their students down," Obama said.

Additionally, the new plan would measure states' success in subjects beyond reading and mathematics. Critics of No Child have said that it failed to emphasize science, art, history and other subjects.

Last year's stimulus bill included $3.5 billion to address the problem of failing schools. The administration has also proposed $900 million for cities and states that turn around or close their worst schools.

Government is frantically moving in all directions but will collide at a common intersection. They're afraid some of their communist intentions will fail, but want to get at least two passed that will seriously damage this nation...even more so than they've accomplished already.

Thanks to his predecessor this further botching of our lousy education system has been made easy.

The NEA hated NCLB. Obama is giving them some payback.

Obama's "Safe School Czar" Kevin
"use a condom" Jennings
__________________________________________________________

From the Washington Times...

EDITORIAL: At the president's pleasure
'Safe school czar' encouraged child sex with an older man
September 28, 2009

A teacher was told by a 15-year-old high school sophomore that he was having homosexual sex with an "older man." At the very least, statutory rape occurred. Fox News reported that the teacher violated a state law requiring that he report the abuse. That former teacher, Kevin Jennings, is President Obama's "safe school czar". It's getting hard to keep track of all of this president's problematic appointments. Clearly, the process for vetting White House employees has broken down.

In this one case in which Mr. Jennings had a real chance to protect a young boy from a sexual predator, he not only failed to do what the law required but actually encouraged the relationship.

According to Mr. Jennings' own description in a new audiotape discovered by Fox News, the 15-year-old boy met the "older man" in a "bus station bathroom" and was taken to the older man's home that night. When some details about the case became public, Mr. Jennings threatened to sue another teacher who called his failure to report the statutory rape "unethical." Mr. Jennings' defenders asserted that there was no evidence that he was aware the student had sex with the older man.

However, the new audiotape contradicts this claim. In 2000, Mr. Jennings gave a talk to the Iowa chapter of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, an advocacy group that promotes homosexuality in schools. On the tape, Mr. Jennings recollected that he told the student to make sure "to use a condom" when he was with the older man. That he actively encouraged the relationship is reinforced by Mr. Jennings' own description in his 1994 book, "One Teacher in 10." In that account, the teacher boasts how he allayed the student's concerns about the relationship to such a degree that the 15-year-old "left my office with a smile on his face that I would see every time I saw him on the campus for the next two years, until he graduated."

Mr. Jennings' denials about these events reveal a lack of remorse. He has not admitted that he made mistakes in this case, and he now refuses to answer any questions about the scandal. Don't forget, this is a presidential appointee we're talking about. Mr. Obama should make clear what his standards are for public servants serving at the pleasure of the president. Encouraging and covering up man-boy sexual activity are serious offenses. The White House should force Mr. Jennings to come clean.

Excuse me but I’m confused.

Wasn’t this our dead departed Teddy’s signature legislation?

Now, Zero will attempt to put his stamp on it? Is there no shame, the body is barely in the ground?!

I’d agree with 0bama if he wanted to repeal NCLB. Of course he seems to just want to make it worse.

So now in 2010, Barak Obama calls for fixing the public education system by giving us the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which will fix the 2001 GW Bush and Ted Kennedy legislation called “No Child Left Behind,” which was supposed to fix a system supposedly already fixed by a 1994 piece of federal legislation called “Goals 2000,” which was supposed to fix a system already fixed by “America 2000,” which was a 1991 response during the Bush administration to a 1983 federal report on education called “A Nation at Risk, which was published a full four years after Jimmy Carter fixed the nation’s public school system by first establishing a cabinet-level Department of Education in 1979.

IOW, it's t-ball where everyone gets an award and there are no losers. This just days after His own Hyde Park Chicago neighborhood school made headlines over grade changes. Ok, so his hellcare isn't flying so he's throwing this out there as a distraction. Go on vacation already and leave the government alone for a few days!

With his appointee, pedophile Keving Jennings, leading the way in the Dept. Of Education, the Act will now be called “The No Child’s Behind Left Alone” Act.

Perhaps he should expel the NEA. Oh wait, they support him in his efforts to destroy education. My bad.....

From Investor's Business Daily (IBD), August 27, 2008:

"Ayers, now a tenured distinguished professor of education at UIC, works to educate teachers in socialist revolutionary ideology, urging that it be passed on to impressionable students.

One of Ayer's descriptions for a course called 'Improving Learning Environments' says prospective K-12 teachers need to 'be aware of the social and moral universe we inhabit and ... be a teacher capable of hope and struggle, outrage and action, teaching for social justice and liberation.

The Annenberg papers are quite extensive — 132 boxes containing 947 file folders with 70 linear feet of material. They undoubtedly contain more surprises regarding Obama's relationship with Ayers, one of many relationships Obama has sought to hide.'..."

“Thanks to his predecessor this further botching of our lousy education system has been made easy.”

***

You can’t put this on one President. Government has been tampering with education for ages, and as we all know, the problems have become worse. It’s our fault for looking to government for solutions. In this case, the solutions should come from home — the schools, parents, teachers, administrators.

Government has shown that everything it touches burns to the ground. Education is no different. As usual, there are all these agendas — and none of them have anything to do with teaching children.

Obama to increase funding for Unions and Abortions: That way even if the teachers are incompetent, they will be well compensated and with sufficient free abortion, the test scores will rise through eugenics.

Bush's plan resulted in a lot of "teaching to the test." Obama's will probably work by degrading the test itself. How else could you make it possible for everyone to go to college?

In WV the average dropout in high school rate is 25%. According to some I’ve talked to, the reason is generational welfare and the ability to game the system to get on disability.

Neither the Bush nor any projected Obama approach will affect this. By and large, multi-generational welfare clients will follow the money along the past of least effort.
