Inside the SEIU war room

Some of the most influential strategy on health care was developed not on Capitol Hill, but two miles away in what looks like an ordinary office building.

On the first floor of its D.C. headquarters, Service Employees International United has created a war room to lead labor's fight for an overhaul of the nation's health system. At its crux, the space combines SEIU's grassroots and national efforts into a unified voice for passing the bill.

A handful of televisions adorn the walls, providing round-the-clock coverage of what politicians and lobby groups are saying on health care. Researchers diligently take notes, shuffling fact-check notices to a team of communicators that is in constant contact with media and local labor activists.

Pamphlets and signs lay about from past rallies organized in the room. A few televisions point out towards a busy sidewalk, blaring speeches by the President on the need to pass health care.

If the setting seems familiar, it's because the same space was recently ground zero of SEIU's campaign for then-candidate Barack Obama. The union is using its election headquarters — and tactics — to get a health care bill passed.

"We decided that health care was our candidate," said Lori Lodes, an SEIU press handler who works in the war room.

One day I’d like to see all these “non-profits” be non-political.

...without one penny of Government support, financially or otherwise, that goes for every nonprofit. In fact the very existence of nonprofit status, indicates a favorable status that gives them edge, power, and advantage, above someone, or another entity without the perceived advantage.

The government is looking for revenue. Time to tax the non profit organizations, particularly those involved in politics.

Some people in DC need to spread a rumor the SEIU is hiring ‘rally-goers’ to march on the capital. They just need to go to the SEIU Hqtrs to sign up. They’ll get 20 dollars cash just for filling out an application; 50 dollars if they have a welfare ID card.

Considering the damage a great deal of them do, and the federal funds they suck up, job one, get rid of the status, job 2, absolutely no federal funds, job three, tax the crap out of them. Well in light of conservative principles I might want to investigate that last angle.

In regards to taxes, my first effort would be to bring everyone and I do mean EVERYONE, with a job into the federal tax net. No one gets away with not paying a minimum of 10 percent of income into the federal coffers. No graduated tax structure. I can dream.

One way we can start opposing the SEIU is to start to boycott businesses that employ SEIU workers...the same way folks aren’t buying from UAW made products now!

Wouldn’t that stick in the SEIU’s craw if Fox news started broadcasting boycotts of SEIU businesses by TEA partyers, ecetera!

SEIU is NOT “non-profit”!

It is proven in court that they consistently violate their 501-C3 status, by participating in prohibited activiy AND accepting gov’t money (your tax $$) in the process.

The AG continues to get the rulings tossed out.

they will quickly need to pivot from this to Riot Training for their members (for the coming day when our treasury is in the same shape as Greece’s)
