Facebook reached an important milestone for the week ending March 13, 2010 and surpassed Google in the US to become the most visited website for the week.
This may suggest a new trend in the way people navigate the web for information—people value their friend’s recommendations more than a computer algorithm.
Computer algorithms are not good for answering general questions – like what is the best DVD player, or what bar should I visit this weekend or should I leave my boyfriend.

Or it could be because people use their iphones and other portable devices to post online comments back and forth in their custom circle of friends.
It's different than instant messenger in that the other party doesn't have to be online.
It combines elements of twitter with myspace/friendster social networking sites.
Add to that (mobile) people uploading (cellphone?) photos to their profile and you've got an element of flicker/photobucket in this site.
It isn't offering services that other sites don't, it's just where "the cool kids" have moved to this week. And it'll hold their attention until they drift off again somewhere. 2 years ago, Myspace had left Friendster in the dust. Now Myspace is a dying site as well. People may have several accounts on different networking sites but in the end, they will focus their efforts only on one of them.
No. Google’s traffic didn’t decline, FaceBook’s grew at the expense of other sites not shown in the graph. What this shows is that FaceBook is growing in popularity at an extremely rapid pace.

Facebook is cluttered and annoying (to me anyway), I’m often “invited” there, but soon run away screaming.
FaceBook is sort of cluttered, and their UI can be frustrating at times. However, it is a really handy way to keep up with people if you or they have moved away.
