I had my 'coon skin cap' and the record with the song "Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier".
Fess Parker was definitely my hero too. Along with Roy Rodgers. I admit I got a one-sided view of frontier history, but it was just great for a kid. Kids need heroes.
Part of my childhood has died with the passing of Fess Parker.
