Gov. Perry Sends Military Helicopters to Mexico Border

AUSTIN, Texas - Gov. Rick Perry announced on Thursday afternoon that Texas military helicopters will be sent to help in the battle against "spillover" violence in the Mexico border region.

The governor will deploy the OH-58 Kiowa and UH-72 Lakota helicopters as part of the first phase of the violence contingency plan that he activated on Tuesday.

The helicopters will help local law enforcement officers prevent and detect crime along the border. The aircraft will be flown between Brownsville and El Paso.

"As we continue to increase our resources and personnel along the border to combat the threat of spillover violence, we are deploying multiple Texas Military Forces helicopters to the Texas-Mexico border to increase aerial surveillance," said Gov. Perry.

"These resources, along with Texas Department of Public Safety aviation assets, are vital to gathering information from a bird’s eye view and relaying important intelligence back to local, state and federal law enforcement on the ground to ensure the safety of our citizens."

The Texas Department of Public Safety has already deployed aircraft in the effort against border violence. The DPS assets include highly sophisticated technological advancements.

The first phase of the state’s contingency plan against border violence includes increased surveillance of border activity by state and local law enforcement, the Texas Border Security Operations Center, and the Joint Operational and Intelligence Centers to ensure the timely sharing of intelligence information.

Ground, air and maritime patrol presence will also be increased. DPS SWAT Teams and Trooper Strike Teams, and Ranger Recon Teams will also be on standby prepared to tackle border threats.

Gov. Perry has a request pending with the federal government for 1,000 Title 32 National Guardsmen to support civilian law enforcement efforts to enhance border security in Texas. Perry has also requested that predator drones be place in and operate over the Texas-Mexico border to provide essential information to law enforcement on the ground.

Good move. Next thing that needs to be implimented is a state tax of about 50% on remittances to Mexico for the duration of the “difficulties”.

If so, most members of our national military would be willing to join them.

Just never call it a war.

La Raza will be foaming at the mouth about this, I'm sure Ricky will fold like a cheap shirt when they complain to him.

We don't need the threat of military action up here... we need voters making it very clear that unpleasant things will happen to Representatives who vote for Obamacare.

Who knows, maybe Perry is giving these helicopter crews some exercise for future events in places other than the Rio Grande.

Perry just got himself re-elected. I am glad there is someone in this country that has the balls to take on these Mexican thugs. It’s too bad the federal government, led by a socialist, muslim scumbag doesn’t think our country is worth defending.
All he wants is the millions of illegal mexican voters to come over and vote dimorat!!

This is one of the few state taxes that this Texan is willing to implement.

Obama is sending his newly formed Hussein Calvery Batallion to demonstrate his don't ask don't tell policy to the spill over violence.

Who knows. If Perry is willing to take on the drug cartels, he would probably simply shrug his shoulders if la raza threw a hissy fit.

Just a question, but why is it that there always has to be one jerk on every thread who wants to toss off some pissy little naysaying comment, even when a politician does something right?

Now if we could get ahnuld to throw down some real hell on the west side (and not some computer-generated hollywood hokum that his friend james cameron would project onto some movie-theater screen), that would help too. But I ain’t willing to bet any good money on it.

Good for him!

But actually he needs to do something else. Work with the Texas legislature and file a bill voiding Obamacare for Texans like they did in Idaho. I heard that Texas, unlike many other states has no pending legislation. The Tenth Amendment is there for a reason...use it!

Perry is not willing to take on the cartels. If he was, he wouldn't have waited for 8 years to do something about them.

It's a show.

It’s a stupid question, posed by someone who’s ignorant of the situation.

Well, let’s see, you’re from California, so you know about as much, or should I say little, as any other non-Texan on here, based on what the article says, so stop trying to pretend to be somebody. Perry’s taking a good first step to dealing with a serious issue, and you - pissant little nobody hiding behind a keyboard that you are - would rather take a childish little potshot at him than grant that maybe he’s doing something right.

What a small person you are.
