Gov. Perry Sends Military Helicopters to Mexico Border

AUSTIN, Texas - Gov. Rick Perry announced on Thursday afternoon that Texas military helicopters will be sent to help in the battle against "spillover" violence in the Mexico border region.

The governor will deploy the OH-58 Kiowa and UH-72 Lakota helicopters as part of the first phase of the violence contingency plan that he activated on Tuesday.

The helicopters will help local law enforcement officers prevent and detect crime along the border. The aircraft will be flown between Brownsville and El Paso.

"As we continue to increase our resources and personnel along the border to combat the threat of spillover violence, we are deploying multiple Texas Military Forces helicopters to the Texas-Mexico border to increase aerial surveillance," said Gov. Perry.

"These resources, along with Texas Department of Public Safety aviation assets, are vital to gathering information from a bird’s eye view and relaying important intelligence back to local, state and federal law enforcement on the ground to ensure the safety of our citizens."

The Texas Department of Public Safety has already deployed aircraft in the effort against border violence. The DPS assets include highly sophisticated technological advancements.

The first phase of the state’s contingency plan against border violence includes increased surveillance of border activity by state and local law enforcement, the Texas Border Security Operations Center, and the Joint Operational and Intelligence Centers to ensure the timely sharing of intelligence information.

Ground, air and maritime patrol presence will also be increased. DPS SWAT Teams and Trooper Strike Teams, and Ranger Recon Teams will also be on standby prepared to tackle border threats.

Gov. Perry has a request pending with the federal government for 1,000 Title 32 National Guardsmen to support civilian law enforcement efforts to enhance border security in Texas. Perry has also requested that predator drones be place in and operate over the Texas-Mexico border to provide essential information to law enforcement on the ground.

Thanks for the link. Looks like while the TX legislature is off for the year, we won’t be one of the 37 states with pending obamacare nullification bills. We’ll see if we even need to take it up next year, given that the health-care reform bill is still stalled.

Oops! It’s actually Michael Williams - Texas State RR Commissioner. He’s also being backed by Sen. DeMint, FWIW.

Well, he’d better hurry up and get them, because Graham’s new amnesty (At least the house’s CIR/ASAP) will NOT allow the guard to ever be deployed on the southern border.

Yesterday the Hispanic Caucus threw it’s support behind Obamacare for a trade off of amnesty and insuring every latino enclave everywhere. Keep in mind, Medicare payments for those of us who have paid in our entire lives, will be cut.

[snips]“I am so pleased that the reconciliation bill released today provides fair and just treatment to the 4.4 million Americans living in Puerto Rico and its sister territories, who have been treated unequally under federal health programs for too long,” said Rep. Pedro Pierluisi (D-Puerto Rico).

“Today’s bill constitutes a remarkable reversal from where we stood just a few weeks ago. The bill will provide $6.3 billion in new Medicaid funding for the territories in the form of an estimated 182% increase to their current federal funding caps. This represents nearly a tripling of the total Medicaid funding the territories would receive under current law. In addition, whereas the Senate bill strictly limited how new Medicaid funding could be spent, the reconciliation bill gives Puerto Rico and the other territories flexibility to determine how best to use this funding to expand coverage and improve services. Finally, while the Senate bill excluded the U.S. citizens in the territories from the Health Care Exchange, the bill released today provides our constituents with access to the Exchange and $1 billion to offer subsidies to individuals and families of modest means who participate in an Exchange. I am so grateful to the leadership and the members of the CHC for their unstinting support for fair treatment for Puerto Rico and the other territories.”

Members of the Caucus also noted that the legislation makes significant investments to expand community health centers throughout the nation. By directing funding to health care services and for the operation, expansion, and construction of community health centers nationwide, the bill will improve care for all Americans, but be particularly beneficial to Latinos and those living in underserved communities.

I’m not sure how much pull Rep McCaul has on this issue, considering he represents a district that’s far away from the border. Gotta wonder if the reps for the border districts are making any noise about it, but I doubt it, because they’re more than likely democrat.
