At least six anti-abortion-rights Democrats are open to supporting the healthcare bill if they can get a guarantee from the Senate that it will move separate legislation containing the House abortion language, one of those Democratic holdouts said Friday.

Natural Resources Committee Chairman Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.), one of Rep. Bart Stupak’s (D-Mich.) gang of staunch opponents of the Senate abortion language, said they are in discussions with senators and House leaders to secure such a commitment.

“There could be some kind of commitment from the other body to act on this later … to ensure that the Senate language does not remain law,” he said.

Will not happen. IF the SENATE took out the Abortion paid by taxpayers section. It would have to go back to house RIGHT?

Sounds like they are still working the Slaughterhouse angle, "deeming" passage of the overall bill and then bringing up these so-called "sidecar" amendments meant to patch things up with particular groups. Trouble is, the anti-abortion sidecar isn't going to go anywhere. I don't care if they get 51 Senators to agree to add it later. Two problems there. First, if it's 'Rats they're dealing with, their word isn't worth the powder to blow it up. Second, it has to go through the usual Senate procedures, passing committee votes, bringing it to the floor, etc. Plenty of places for pro-abort committee chairmen to bottle it up. Plus, the ultimate roadblock is the Dirty One. Reid can simply not schedule it for a vote, and it dies.

And that is the real strategy of the 'Rats. Say they're going to patch things up "later", and then never do it. They'll hope the issues will fade from the public mind and no one will care about them any more.

Federal judges will overrule this even if it happens!

I have been saying this all along...the anti-abortion Democrats are fools if they think this will stand a judicial test. The liberals will find a friendly judge that will say, essentially, that THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MUST PERMIT ABORTIONS in any national health care policy.

Killing this bill is the only option.

Your analysis seems right on.

I remember not so long ago, Reid begging members to vote yes, so they could “discuss” the Bill.

Now the rant is that “You voted yes the 1st time now you have to vote yes again”.

Fools abound—the most foolish are the ones who believe that these “pro-life” DIMOCRATS actually care about abortion in the first place. All they care about are votes.
